67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Reta Gay Nance were
89 deeply saddened by her passing on November 29, 2024, at the age of
910 85; and
1011 WHEREAS, The daughter of G. W. and Wilma Garrett, the former
1112 Reta Garrett was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, on June 24, 1939, and she
1213 grew up with the companionship of two siblings, Martha and Bob; she
1314 graduated from Whiteface High School in 1957 and later earned a
1415 bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University; and
1516 WHEREAS, On June 29, 1959, she married her high school
1617 sweetheart, John Michael Nance, and they shared a fulfilling
1718 relationship until his passing; Mrs. Nance was a devoted mother to
1819 her three daughters, Sonnya, Ginger, and Traci, and with the
1920 passing years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to
2021 include six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mrs. Nance enjoyed a rewarding career as an educator
2223 that spanned more than two and a half decades, and she taught in the
2324 Plains Independent School District for many years before eventually
2425 retiring from Cedar Hill ISD; in her leisure time, she enjoyed
2526 traveling and playing golf; a woman of strong faith, she was a
2627 longtime member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church
2728 of Plains, and later, she was an active congregant of Acton Baptist
2829 Church; and
2930 WHEREAS, Although Reta Nance is greatly missed, she has left
3031 her family and friends with many cherished memories, and she will
3132 forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Reta Gay Nance and
3435 extend heartfelt condolences to the members of her family: to her
3536 daughters, Sonnya Airhart and her husband, Todd, Ginger Spiller and
3637 her husband, David, and Traci Scarbrough and her husband, Jason; to
3738 her grandchildren, Taylor Ledyard and her husband, Joey, Jordan
3839 Airhart and his wife, Katie, Mason Spiller and his wife, Alexandra,
3940 Reid Spiller and his wife, Haley, Madeline Scarbrough, and Parker
4041 Scarbrough; to her great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Graceland
4142 Ledyard, Wyatt Airhart, and John, Caroline, Carson, and Campbell
4243 Spiller; to her siblings, Martha Brooks and her husband, Dick, and
4344 Bob Garrett and his wife, Mary Kay; and to her other relatives and
4445 friends; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4748 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Reta Nance.
