7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, All who shared in the life of Reta Gay Nance were |

8 | 9 | | deeply saddened by her passing on November 29, 2024, at the age of |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of G. W. and Wilma Garrett, the former |
---|
11 | 12 | | Reta Garrett was born in Hollis, Oklahoma, on June 24, 1939, and she |
---|
12 | 13 | | grew up with the companionship of two siblings, Martha and Bob; she |
---|
13 | 14 | | graduated from Whiteface High School in 1957 and later earned a |
---|
14 | 15 | | bachelor's degree from Texas Tech University; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, On June 29, 1959, she married her high school |
---|
16 | 17 | | sweetheart, John Michael Nance, and they shared a fulfilling |
---|
17 | 18 | | relationship until his passing; Mrs. Nance was a devoted mother to |
---|
18 | 19 | | her three daughters, Sonnya, Ginger, and Traci, and with the |
---|
19 | 20 | | passing years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to |
---|
20 | 21 | | include six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Nance enjoyed a rewarding career as an educator |
---|
22 | 23 | | that spanned more than two and a half decades, and she taught in the |
---|
23 | 24 | | Plains Independent School District for many years before eventually |
---|
24 | 25 | | retiring from Cedar Hill ISD; in her leisure time, she enjoyed |
---|
25 | 26 | | traveling and playing golf; a woman of strong faith, she was a |
---|
26 | 27 | | longtime member and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church |
---|
27 | 28 | | of Plains, and later, she was an active congregant of Acton Baptist |
---|
28 | 29 | | Church; and |

29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Although Reta Nance is greatly missed, she has left |

30 | 31 | | her family and friends with many cherished memories, and she will |

31 | 32 | | forever hold a special place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Reta Gay Nance and |
