67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, The Nocona High School girls' basketball team
89 reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2025 University
910 Interscholastic League 2A Division 1 state championship; and
1011 WHEREAS, The Lady Indians began their journey to the crown by
1112 clinching the district title; continuing to excel in the playoffs,
1213 Nocona bested Hawley, Hico, Collinsville, and Muenster High Schools
1314 to advance to the state tournament for the second consecutive year;
1415 after defeating Panhandle High School 46-41 in the semifinals,
1516 Nocona moved on to the state final; and
1617 WHEREAS, Determined to reverse the heartbreak of 2024, when
1718 their title bid fell short by just two points, the Lady Indians
1819 battled San Saba High School for the state crown on February 27 at
1920 the Alamodome in San Antonio; showcasing a stout defense and a
2021 relentless scoring attack, Nocona ended the second quarter on a
2122 13-2 run to build a 20-11 halftime advantage; after taking a 35-24
2223 lead into the fourth frame, the Lady Indians demonstrated their
2324 resilience, stopping their foe's comeback attempt and then
2425 dominating down the stretch; emerging triumphant by the final score
2526 of 54-37, Nocona claimed the first state title in program history
2627 and ended with an impressive 32-6 record; and
2728 WHEREAS, The Lady Indians were led by Megyn Meekins, the
2829 championship game Most Valuable Player who scored 30 points and was
2930 joined by Aubree Kleinhans on the 2A Division 1 All-Tournament
3031 Team; excelling through teamwork, Nocona also received valuable
3132 contributions throughout the year from the other members of the
3233 roster: Bayler Smith, Presley Weber, Reagan Phipps, Leah Meekins,
3334 Kasi Castro, Ayden Patton, Avery Crutsinger, Heidi Atteberry, Jolie
3435 Rose, Jasmine Olivares, Krisyah Parker, Kaygan Stone, and Paige
3536 Davis; these determined student-athletes were ably guided by head
3637 coach Kyle Spitzer and assistant coaches Clayton Brown and Emma
3738 Meekins; and
3839 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
3940 culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
4041 commitment to excellence, and the members of the Nocona Lady
4142 Indians basketball team will treasure the memory of this
4243 accomplishment for the rest of their lives; now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4445 Legislature hereby congratulate the Nocona High School girls'
4546 basketball team on winning the 2025 UIL 2A Division 1 state
4647 championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
4748 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5051 House of Representatives.
