| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The history of the pharmacy profession in Texas |

| 11 | 12 | | dates back to the 17th century, when Spanish explorers and |

| 12 | 13 | | missionaries dispensed medicines and learned about Native American |

| 13 | 14 | | remedies; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today, pharmacists often serve as the primary point |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | of contact with the health care system for tens of millions of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Americans, and they play an increasingly important role in |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | counseling patients on the safe and effective use of prescription |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | medications; during the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmacists provided |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | access to testing, treatment, and vaccination, services that helped |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | to save countless lives and to limit the spread of the virus in |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | their communities; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Pharmacists work to provide affordable, lifesaving |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | medications in rural areas across Texas and the United States; |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | these valued members of the community live and work alongside |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | patients as neighbors, friends, and community leaders in addition |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | to their role as medical providers; such lasting relationships |

| 27 | 28 | | build trust and confidence, making pharmacists better able to serve |

| 28 | 29 | | as a resource when questions and concerns arise; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Champions on the front lines of health care, |

| 30 | 31 | | pharmacists contribute immeasurably to the health and well-being of |

| 31 | 32 | | their fellow Texans, and it is truly a pleasure to recognize the |

| 32 | 33 | | members of this vital profession for their commitment to the |

| 33 | 34 | | quality of life in their communities; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
