7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, For 44 years, the citizens of Live Oak County have |

8 | 9 | | benefited from the leadership and dedication of Sheriff Larry R. |

9 | 10 | | Busby, who has spent more time in office than any other actively |

10 | 11 | | serving sheriff in the State of Texas; and |
---|
11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, With a career in law enforcement that has spanned |
---|
12 | 13 | | five decades, Sheriff Busby was sworn into office for his 12th |
---|
13 | 14 | | consecutive four-year term on January 1, 2025; since winning his |
---|
14 | 15 | | first election in 1980, he has often gone unopposed in subsequent |
---|
15 | 16 | | bids for reelection, and he has won the confidence and trust of |
---|
16 | 17 | | county voters for his tireless commitment to public safety and his |
---|
17 | 18 | | fair and respectful treatment of those he has encountered on the |
---|
18 | 19 | | job; at the conclusion of his current term, he will hold the title |
---|
19 | 20 | | of the longest-serving sheriff in Texas history; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The son of a ranch hand, Larry Busby learned the |
---|
21 | 22 | | importance of hard work, responsibility, and sacrifice at an early |
---|
22 | 23 | | age; he earned a bachelor's degree in agricultural business from |
---|
23 | 24 | | Texas A&I University in 1969, and he received certification as a |
---|
24 | 25 | | reserve peace officer in 1975, the same year that he became a deputy |
---|
25 | 26 | | with the Live Oak Sheriff's Office; he has since obtained |
---|
26 | 27 | | certification as a master peace officer, served on legislative |
---|
27 | 28 | | committees, and held membership in the Coastal Bend Peace Officers |
---|
28 | 29 | | Association, the Sheriffs' Association of Texas, and the National |
---|
29 | 30 | | Sheriffs' Association; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has shared his expertise as a |
---|
31 | 32 | | college instructor and as a member of the law enforcement advisory |
---|
32 | 33 | | committees at both Coastal Bend College and Del Mar College; he has |
---|
33 | 34 | | also volunteered his time as a board member for the Boys & Girls |
---|
34 | 35 | | Club of Live Oak County and as a member of the George West Lions Club |
---|
35 | 36 | | and the local Masonic lodge; moreover, he has distinguished himself |
---|
36 | 37 | | as a top competitor in law enforcement shooting and rodeo contests, |
---|
37 | 38 | | and he was part of the state champion roping team in 1986; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Larry Busby has devoted himself tirelessly |
---|
39 | 40 | | to serving and protecting the residents of Live Oak County, and he |
---|
40 | 41 | | may indeed reflect with pride on all that he has accomplished over |

41 | 42 | | the course of his extraordinary tenure; now, therefore, be it |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby honor Larry R. Busby as the longest-serving |
---|
44 | 45 | | sheriff in office in the State of Texas and extend to him sincere |
---|
45 | 46 | | best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
