| 9 | 10 | | 2025, in celebration of South Texas ISD Day at the State Capitol; |

| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Established by order of the state legislature in |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | 1964, South Texas ISD began as a residential school in Edinburg for |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | students with disabilities, who at the time were excluded from |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | public education; during the 1970s, the district enrolled special |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | education students from Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy Counties and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | provided them with the opportunity to develop valuable life and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | vocational skills while participating in sports and other |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | activities; today, the district continues to offer educational and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | occupational training to individuals with disabilities through |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | full-time enrollment and half-day programs; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 1982, the State Board of Education initiated |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | plans for the first magnet school in South Texas; two years later, |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the South Texas ISD Health Professions high school opened its |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | doors, marking a significant milestone for the advancement of |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | career and technical education in the Rio Grande Valley; over the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | next several decades, the district established six additional |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | magnet schools offering specialized learning environments, |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | including the South Texas ISD Science Academy, South Texas ISD |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Medical Professions, South Texas ISD World Scholars, South Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | ISD Preparatory Academy, South Texas ISD Rising Scholars Academy, |

| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, An open-enrollment district, South Texas ISD |

| 34 | 35 | | Antonio Lara Jr.; its schools are consistently ranked among the |

| 35 | 36 | | best in the state and nation by Niche and U.S. News & World Report |

| 36 | 37 | | and have made frequent appearances on Educational Results |

| 37 | 38 | | Partnership Texas Honor Roll lists; four of its campuses have been |

| 38 | 39 | | designated as Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department of |

| 39 | 40 | | Education, and the district has further been honored by Niche by |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | being highly ranked on its Districts with the Best Teachers in Texas |

| 41 | 42 | | and Best Places to Teach in Texas lists for multiple years; and |

| 42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, South Texas ISD serves as a model for quality and |

| 43 | 44 | | innovation in public education for not only the State of Texas but |

| 44 | 45 | | the nation at large, and its schools have helped countless young |

| 45 | 46 | | Texans explore pathways to success that align with their unique |

| 46 | 47 | | talents and career aspirations; now, therefore, be it |

| 47 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 48 | 49 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 12, 2025, as South Texas ISD Day |
