| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, World Down Syndrome Day is being held at the State |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Down syndrome, the most commonly occurring |

| 11 | 12 | | partial extra copy of chromosome 21; one of every 700 babies born in |

| 12 | 13 | | the United States each year is born with Down syndrome; and |

| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Medical advances have significantly increased the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | life expectancy of people with Down syndrome, which is now |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | approaching that of peers without the condition; in addition to the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | advantages of modern medicine, support groups and other resources |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | are now available in nearly every community in the United States; |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, When provided with quality education programs, a |

| 20 | 21 | | stimulating home environment, good health care, and support from |

| 21 | 22 | | family and friends, individuals with Down syndrome can lead |

|---|

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly |
