| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Texas State University celebrated its 125th |

| 8 | 9 | | anniversary in 2024; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established as Southwest Texas State Normal School |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | on May 10, 1899, with the purpose of training the future teachers of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Texas, the institution first opened its doors on September 9, 1903, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and the inaugural class of 32 teachers graduated in May 1904; the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | school was renamed several times through the ensuing decades as the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | scope of its mission broadened, and in 2013, it adopted its |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | present-day name; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Today, Texas State is a dynamic institution of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | higher learning with a long tradition of research and academic |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | excellence, and it serves more than 40,000 students and offers over |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | 200 degree programs across its nine colleges; moreover, its alumni |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | network consists of some 230,000 graduates; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Texas State operates out of two campuses, in San |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Marcos and Round Rock, and in August 2025, it is opening an |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | international campus in Mexico; among its many accolades, TXST was |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | recognized as a Fulbright Hispanic-Serving Institution Leader by |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the U.S. Department of State for the second consecutive year in |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | 2024; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding 125 years ago, Texas State has |

| 28 | 29 | | provided generations of Texans with a strong foundation for |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | achievement, and in so doing, it has contributed significantly to |

| 30 | 31 | | the prosperity and vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 125th anniversary of Texas State |

| 34 | 35 | | University and commend all those who have contributed to its |

| 35 | 36 | | mission of building a better tomorrow; and, be it further |
