| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mariachi Nueva Generación of Texas State University |

| 9 | 10 | | college/university category at the 30th annual Mariachi |

| 10 | 11 | | Extravaganza held in San Antonio on December 5-7, 2024; and |

| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The Mariachi Extravaganza is a multiday festival |

| 12 | 13 | | that celebrates the culture and history of Latin music and promotes |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | higher education and cultural preservation among Hispanic youth; |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | more than 1,000 student-musicians showcase their talents during the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | national vocal and group competitions, which has categories for |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | middle school, high school, and college/university participants; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | on the last day of the event, the winners join together for a |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | concert; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Established in the fall of 1997, Mariachi Nueva |

| 20 | 21 | | Generación is a Latin music studies class at Texas State University |

| 21 | 22 | | dedicated to the practice of all genres associated with mariachi, |

| 22 | 23 | | including son, huapango, bolero, and polka, among others; over the |

| 23 | 24 | | years, the group has performed throughout the region and has |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | received a multitude of awards; in addition, MNG holds programs and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | clinics for students from across Texas, and each spring, it hosts |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | the Feria del Mariachi competition and workshop; with their victory |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | at the Mariachi Extravaganza, the talented musicians of Mariachi |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Nueva Generación earned the opportunity to perform in the final |

| 29 | 30 | | concert, which featured the world-renowned Mariachi Vargas de |

| 30 | 31 | | Tecalitlán; and |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through their skill, hard work, and dedication, the |

| 32 | 33 | | members of Mariachi Nueva Generación have contributed to the |

| 33 | 34 | | vibrancy of a rich musical tradition, and their accomplishments are |

| 34 | 35 | | a source of great pride to the Texas State community; now, |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Mariachi Nueva Generación on |

| 39 | 40 | | all those associated with the group sincere best wishes for the |
