7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, April is Landscape Architecture Month, and this |

8 | 9 | | occasion provides a fitting opportunity to commemorate the 125th |

9 | 10 | | anniversary of the American Society of Landscape Architects; and |
---|
10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Landscape architecture is a multifaceted profession |
---|
11 | 12 | | that encompasses the analysis, design, planning, management, and |
---|
12 | 13 | | stewardship of the natural and built environment; landscape |
---|
13 | 14 | | architects are licensed STEM professionals who play a crucial role |
---|
14 | 15 | | in shaping the spaces where people live and work, and their many |
---|
15 | 16 | | contributions include designing and creating community |
---|
16 | 17 | | masterplans, walkable neighborhoods, multimodal transportation |
---|
17 | 18 | | networks, green stormwater systems, and accessible spaces such as |
---|
18 | 19 | | public plazas, parks, schools, residential common areas, |
---|
19 | 20 | | playgrounds, and trails; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In addition to enhancing the quality of life for |
---|
21 | 22 | | residents, landscape architects address issues such as climate |
---|
22 | 23 | | change and biodiversity by implementing sustainable design |
---|
23 | 24 | | practices and creating resilient and green infrastructure that can |
---|
24 | 25 | | withstand and respond to severe weather events; through these |
---|
25 | 26 | | efforts, landscape architects help to reduce the burden on state |
---|
26 | 27 | | and local funds for disaster recovery; and |
---|
27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A number of higher education institutions feature |
---|
28 | 29 | | accredited landscape architecture programs, including The |
---|
29 | 30 | | University of Texas at Arlington, The University of Texas at |
---|
30 | 31 | | Austin, Texas A&M University, and Texas Tech University; each of |
---|
31 | 32 | | these institutions has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to |
---|
32 | 33 | | nurturing the next generation of leaders and innovators in |
---|
33 | 34 | | landscape architecture in Texas; and |
---|
34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Founded on January 4, 1899, the American Society of |
---|
35 | 36 | | Landscape Architects has rendered invaluable service to countless |
---|
36 | 37 | | professionals in the field of landscape architecture; today, the |
---|
37 | 38 | | organization boasts nearly 15,000 members and 49 chapters, |
---|
38 | 39 | | representing all 50 states and U.S. territories; and |
---|
39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Landscape architects create inviting and safe |
---|
40 | 41 | | spaces that contribute to the economy while simultaneously |
---|
41 | 42 | | preserving the environment and ecological systems, and in so doing, |
---|
42 | 43 | | they are making immeasurable contributions to the beauty and |
---|
43 | 44 | | vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 2025 as Landscape Architecture |
---|
46 | 47 | | Month and commemorate the 125th anniversary of the American Society |
---|
47 | 48 | | of Landscape Architects; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
49 | 50 | | prepared for the American Society of Landscape Architects as an |
---|
50 | 51 | | expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
