| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Forestry Association is sponsoring a |

| 8 | 9 | | seedling giveaway at the State Capitol on April 2, 2025, in an |

| 9 | 10 | | effort to promote public awareness of the importance of our state's |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | timber resources; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Each year, family forest owners and timberland |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | investors plant 83 million seedlings to help maintain sustainable |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | forests for future generations of Texans; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The forest sector in Texas covers more than 12 |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | million acres and directly employs over 70,000 people, with a total |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | economic impact of more than $41.6 billion, making timber a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | valuable agricultural commodity statewide; Texas loggers harvest |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | over 18 million tons of trees and haul more than 642,000 loads of |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | wood from timberlands to mills for conversion into affordable and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | sustainable products; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Forests in the Lone Star State sequester 58,836 tons |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | of carbon from the atmosphere every day, equivalent to the amount |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | emitted by 11,603 passenger vehicles in an entire year; moreover, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | one ton of carbon is converted into lumber and paper products every |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | 6.27 seconds; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1914 by a group of dedicated |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | conservationists, the Texas Forestry Association is a nonprofit |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | organization committed to advancing forestry management, promoting |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | conservation practices, and supporting and protecting the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | interests of the working forests of Texas; TFA offers programs such |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | as the Sustainable Forestry Initiative and tree farm certification |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | to educate the public and encourage reforestation, with the |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | understanding that best management practices are essential for |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | productive forests; and |

| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Forestry Association works to ensure that |

| 36 | 37 | | abundant forests remain a dependable resource for the citizens of |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | Texas, providing clean air and water, supporting diverse wildlife |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | habitats, and helping to maintain a robust economy, and the |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | organization has long contributed to the economic vitality and |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | beauty of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby recognize the Texas Forestry Association on the |
|---|
| 43 | 44 | | occasion of its seedling giveaway at the State Capitol and extend a |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | warm welcome to the visiting delegation; and, be it further |

| 45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
