7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Representatives of Children's Health in Dallas are |

8 | 9 | | gathering on March 12, 2025, to commemorate Children's Health ECMO |

9 | 10 | | Day at the State Capitol; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is a |
---|
11 | 12 | | life-support system for critically ill children with heart or lung |
---|
12 | 13 | | problems, and the specialists of the ECMO team at Children's Health |
---|
13 | 14 | | in Dallas are dedicated to providing advanced, round-the-clock care |
---|
14 | 15 | | to young patients who are in need of this innovative form of |
---|
15 | 16 | | therapy; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, ECMO works by circulating a patient's blood through |
---|
17 | 18 | | a machine that removes carbon dioxide and adds oxygen; a child can |
---|
18 | 19 | | receive ECMO therapy for several days to weeks while undergoing |
---|
19 | 20 | | care at Children's Health, during which time they are treated by a |
---|
20 | 21 | | specialist team in the hospital's pediatric intensive care unit; |
---|
21 | 22 | | and |

22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Located in the Southwestern Medical District in the |
---|
23 | 24 | | heart of Dallas, Children's Health has been the primary clinical |
---|
24 | 25 | | partner of UT Southwestern Medical Center since 1961; over the past |
---|
25 | 26 | | 35 years, the hospital has provided extracorporeal life support to |
---|
26 | 27 | | more than 1,200 patients, giving them hope for survival when all |
---|
27 | 28 | | other forms of conventional life support have failed; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, The ECMO program at Children's Health has received |
---|
29 | 30 | | international recognition as a Platinum Center of Excellence from |
---|
30 | 31 | | the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization; Children's was also |
---|
31 | 32 | | the first institution in the world to have its ECMO educational |
---|
32 | 33 | | program endorsed by ELSO, following a review of the course in March |
---|
33 | 34 | | 2017; and |

34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to |

35 | 36 | | their work, the ECMO specialists at Children's Health include |

49 | 50 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

50 | 51 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 12, 2025, as Children's Health |
