| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Many proud members of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority are |

| 8 | 9 | | gathering at the State Capitol on March 18, 2025; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Organized by seven young educators in Indianapolis, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Indiana, in 1922, Sigma Gamma Rho became an incorporated national |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | collegiate sorority on December 30, 1929, when a charter was |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | granted to the Alpha chapter at Butler University; it is the only |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | member of the National Pan-Hellenic Council "Divine Nine" that |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | began as a professional organization at a predominantly white |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | institution; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho today is an international service |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | organization with more than 100,000 members in over 500 chapters in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | the United States, as well as in the Bahamas, Bermuda, the Virgin |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Islands, Canada, Germany, South Korea, and the United Arab |

| 20 | 21 | | Emirates; through community service and civil and social action, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | members work to enhance quality of life for women and their families |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | across the country and beyond; areas of particular focus include |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | education and health awareness; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the sorority has provided |

| 25 | 26 | | opportunities for members to develop their unique talents; it |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | offers leadership training and activities that develop |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | professional contacts and supportive friendships that can last a |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | lifetime; Sigma women are active in a wide array of professions, and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | they have achieved prominence in such fields as politics, |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | entertainment, literature, business, higher education, and sports; |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | moreover, Sigma Gamma Rho has created affiliate groups that empower |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | women at different stages of life, including the Rhoer Club and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Philo Affiliates; and |

| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Guided by their motto, "Greater Service, Greater |

| 35 | 36 | | Progress," the members of Sigma Gamma Rho continue to set an |

| 36 | 37 | | inspiring example through their commitment to uplifting |

| 37 | 38 | | communities and to spurring positive change; now, therefore, be it |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 18, 2025, as Sigma Gamma Rho |

| 40 | 41 | | Sorority Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to all |

| 41 | 42 | | those in attendance; and, be it further |

| 42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
