| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Nepali Lumbini Advocacy Day is taking place at the |

| 8 | 9 | | State Capitol on March 13, 2025, providing a fitting opportunity to |

| 9 | 10 | | recognize the many contributions of the Nepalese American community |

| 10 | 11 | | in Texas and to celebrate the rich history of the province of |

| 11 | 12 | | Lumbini in Nepal; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The United States and Nepal have enjoyed a strong |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and productive friendship for 77 years; on April 25, 1947, the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | U.S. became the second country to establish diplomatic relations |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | with Nepal, which opened its embassy in Washington, D.C., in 1958; |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the American Embassy in Kathmandu began operations the following |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | year; since that time, many Americans and Nepalis have formed |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | people-to-people connections through educational and cultural |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | exchanges; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, One of the most sacred locations in Buddhism, |

| 21 | 22 | | Lumbini is recognized as the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, who |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | became the Buddha; the area has been named a UNESCO World Heritage |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Site, and it is a major spiritual destination for people of the |

| 24 | 25 | | Buddhist faith; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Lumbini attracts millions of pilgrims and tourists |

| 26 | 27 | | annually, and it serves as a research center for scholars and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | archeologists; the area features such attractions as monasteries, |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | temples, and historical landmarks, including the Maya Devi Temple, |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | which marks the location of the Buddha's birth; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The Nepalese American community plays a vital role |

| 31 | 32 | | in the business, professional, and cultural life of Texas, and the |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | participants in this advocacy day are demonstrating their |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | commitment to making an even greater positive impact in the years |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | ahead; now, therefore, be it |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 13, 2025, as Nepali Lumbini |
