67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close
89 with the passing of James Darby Walker on August 2, 2024, at the age
910 of 57; and
1011 WHEREAS, The son of Nayna and JT Walker, Jim Walker was born
1112 in Dallas on June 5, 1967; he graduated from Jesuit College
1213 Preparatory School of Dallas and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force;
1314 following two years of active duty, he transferred to the Texas
1415 National Guard in order to complete his bachelor's degree at
1516 Midwestern State University; through Education for Democracy, he
1617 spent a year teaching English in Slovakia, where he met his future
1718 wife, Andrea; while earning a law degree from The University of
1819 Texas at Austin, he began working in the mortgage industry, and in
1920 1998, he founded his own company, Counselors Mortgage; as the
2021 Austin-based business grew, his wife left the corporate world to
2122 partner with him, and their complementary skills and expertise
2223 brought further success; and
2324 WHEREAS, The Walkers were blessed with two children, Lance
2425 and Luke, and Mr. Walker guided them in Boy Scouts and coached them
2526 on the Regents Knights lacrosse team; in addition, he helped direct
2627 traffic for school arrivals as a longtime member of the Regents Dads
2728 Curb Service; he loved to cheer on his sons at all their sporting
2829 events, concerts, and plays; a man of faith, he attended Bible study
2930 regularly and led the financial services ministry at First
3031 Evangelical Free Church; he was a source of wisdom to many, and he
3132 had a gift for connecting people who could potentially benefit from
3233 knowing one another and for finding jobs and opportunities for
3334 those seeking advancement; his numerous interests included golf,
3435 chess, politics, and occasionally poker, but his greatest joy was
3536 spending time with his family; and
3637 WHEREAS, Although Jim Walker is deeply missed by those he has
3738 left behind, they will forever treasure their memories of his
3839 enthusiasm, kindness, keen wit, and sense of fun; now, therefore,
3940 be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4142 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James Darby Walker and
4243 extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife,
4344 Andrea Walker; to his sons, Lance and Luke Walker; to his mother,
4445 Nayna Walker; to his siblings, Ann Walker, Jeanne Oden, Katy
4546 McAteer, Gayle Pierce, and George McAteer; and to his many other
4647 relatives and friends; and, be it further
4748 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4849 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4950 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jim Walker.
