7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A life lived with joy and purpose drew to a close |

8 | 9 | | with the passing of James Darby Walker on August 2, 2024, at the age |

9 | 10 | | of 57; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of Nayna and JT Walker, Jim Walker was born |
---|
11 | 12 | | in Dallas on June 5, 1967; he graduated from Jesuit College |
---|
12 | 13 | | Preparatory School of Dallas and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force; |
---|
13 | 14 | | following two years of active duty, he transferred to the Texas |
---|
14 | 15 | | National Guard in order to complete his bachelor's degree at |
---|
15 | 16 | | Midwestern State University; through Education for Democracy, he |
---|
16 | 17 | | spent a year teaching English in Slovakia, where he met his future |
---|
17 | 18 | | wife, Andrea; while earning a law degree from The University of |
---|
18 | 19 | | Texas at Austin, he began working in the mortgage industry, and in |
---|
19 | 20 | | 1998, he founded his own company, Counselors Mortgage; as the |
---|
20 | 21 | | Austin-based business grew, his wife left the corporate world to |
---|
21 | 22 | | partner with him, and their complementary skills and expertise |
---|
22 | 23 | | brought further success; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The Walkers were blessed with two children, Lance |
---|
24 | 25 | | and Luke, and Mr. Walker guided them in Boy Scouts and coached them |
---|
25 | 26 | | on the Regents Knights lacrosse team; in addition, he helped direct |
---|
26 | 27 | | traffic for school arrivals as a longtime member of the Regents Dads |
---|
27 | 28 | | Curb Service; he loved to cheer on his sons at all their sporting |
---|
28 | 29 | | events, concerts, and plays; a man of faith, he attended Bible study |
---|
29 | 30 | | regularly and led the financial services ministry at First |
---|
30 | 31 | | Evangelical Free Church; he was a source of wisdom to many, and he |
---|
31 | 32 | | had a gift for connecting people who could potentially benefit from |
---|
32 | 33 | | knowing one another and for finding jobs and opportunities for |
---|
33 | 34 | | those seeking advancement; his numerous interests included golf, |
---|
34 | 35 | | chess, politics, and occasionally poker, but his greatest joy was |
---|
35 | 36 | | spending time with his family; and |
---|
36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Although Jim Walker is deeply missed by those he has |
---|
37 | 38 | | left behind, they will forever treasure their memories of his |
---|
38 | 39 | | enthusiasm, kindness, keen wit, and sense of fun; now, therefore, |

40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

41 | 42 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of James Darby Walker and |

42 | 43 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |

43 | 44 | | Andrea Walker; to his sons, Lance and Luke Walker; to his mother, |

44 | 45 | | Nayna Walker; to his siblings, Ann Walker, Jeanne Oden, Katy |
