 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
 passing of Andrew Stephen Massimino of Dallas on August 24, 2024, at
 the age of 89; and
 WHEREAS, The son of Italian immigrants Enrico and Marguerite
 Massimino, Andrew Massimino was born in Russellton, Pennsylvania,
 on October 9, 1934, and he grew up with two sisters, Theresa and
 Marge; he attended West Deer High School, and in 1953, he received a
 congressional appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy; during his
 time there, he excelled in academics and athletics, and he went on
 to graduate with distinction in 1957; commissioned as an ensign in
 the U.S. Navy, he served two years on the USS Boston and completed
 submarine school curriculum; and
 WHEREAS, Subsequently, Mr. Massimino attended the naval
 Nuclear Power School in California, and following training at the
 operational reactor site in New York, he was assigned to the nuclear
 submarine program, serving in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and
 Virginia; he next completed an executive officer tour on the USS
 Haddo, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal, and in 1969, he was
 promoted to commander and selected for a position at the Pentagon;
 soon after, he fell ill, and he underwent lifesaving surgery for a
 brain abscess; upon his recovery, he launched a new career with
 Electronic Data Systems in Dallas that would span 26 years; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Massimino shared 65 rewarding years with his
 wife, Frances, and he was devoted to their children, Elisa,
 Michele, Maria, Andrew, and Julia, and their 11 grandchildren; a
 man of many interests, he enjoyed travel, cooking, and music, and he
 delighted in performing with his barbershop chorus; moreover, he
 was an active parishioner of Saint Patrick Catholic Church; and
 WHEREAS, Guided by the values of faith, hard work,
 generosity, and kindness, Andrew Massimino leaves behind a legacy
 that will long be treasured by all who held him dear; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Andrew Stephen
 Massimino and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his
 family: to his wife, Frances Massimino; to his children, Elisa and
 her husband, Pierre Donahue, Michele and her husband, Joseph Corr,
 Maria and her husband, James Stanley, Andrew and his wife, Kelly
 Sanford, and Julia and her wife, Lynda Vargha; to his
 grandchildren, Carmella, Mia, Dominic, Olivia, Anthony, Rocco,
 Ramona, Desmond, Augustus, Ignatius, and Jude; and to his many
 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Andrew
 Massimino.
