67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
89 passing of Andrew Stephen Massimino of Dallas on August 24, 2024, at
910 the age of 89; and
1011 WHEREAS, The son of Italian immigrants Enrico and Marguerite
1112 Massimino, Andrew Massimino was born in Russellton, Pennsylvania,
1213 on October 9, 1934, and he grew up with two sisters, Theresa and
1314 Marge; he attended West Deer High School, and in 1953, he received a
1415 congressional appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy; during his
1516 time there, he excelled in academics and athletics, and he went on
1617 to graduate with distinction in 1957; commissioned as an ensign in
1718 the U.S. Navy, he served two years on the USS Boston and completed
1819 submarine school curriculum; and
1920 WHEREAS, Subsequently, Mr. Massimino attended the naval
2021 Nuclear Power School in California, and following training at the
2122 operational reactor site in New York, he was assigned to the nuclear
2223 submarine program, serving in New Hampshire, Connecticut, and
2324 Virginia; he next completed an executive officer tour on the USS
2425 Haddo, receiving the Meritorious Service Medal, and in 1969, he was
2526 promoted to commander and selected for a position at the Pentagon;
2627 soon after, he fell ill, and he underwent lifesaving surgery for a
2728 brain abscess; upon his recovery, he launched a new career with
2829 Electronic Data Systems in Dallas that would span 26 years; and
2930 WHEREAS, Mr. Massimino shared 65 rewarding years with his
3031 wife, Frances, and he was devoted to their children, Elisa,
3132 Michele, Maria, Andrew, and Julia, and their 11 grandchildren; a
3233 man of many interests, he enjoyed travel, cooking, and music, and he
3334 delighted in performing with his barbershop chorus; moreover, he
3435 was an active parishioner of Saint Patrick Catholic Church; and
3536 WHEREAS, Guided by the values of faith, hard work,
3637 generosity, and kindness, Andrew Massimino leaves behind a legacy
3738 that will long be treasured by all who held him dear; now,
3839 therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4041 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Andrew Stephen
4142 Massimino and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his
4243 family: to his wife, Frances Massimino; to his children, Elisa and
4344 her husband, Pierre Donahue, Michele and her husband, Joseph Corr,
4445 Maria and her husband, James Stanley, Andrew and his wife, Kelly
4546 Sanford, and Julia and her wife, Lynda Vargha; to his
4647 grandchildren, Carmella, Mia, Dominic, Olivia, Anthony, Rocco,
4748 Ramona, Desmond, Augustus, Ignatius, and Jude; and to his many
4849 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4950 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5051 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5152 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Andrew
5253 Massimino.
