8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Calhoun County lost an esteemed |
---|
9 | 9 | | community leader and friend to many with the passing of County Judge |
---|
10 | 10 | | Richard Harold Meyer on November 18, 2024, at the age of 74; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of Robert and Gladys Elder Meyer, Richard |
---|
12 | 12 | | Meyer was born in Port Lavaca on July 5, 1950, and he grew up with |
---|
13 | 13 | | the companionship of four siblings, Lloyd, Bobby, Mary, and Lois |
---|
14 | 14 | | Ann; after graduating from Calhoun High School in 1968, he answered |
---|
15 | 15 | | his nation's call to duty and served for six years as a member of the |
---|
16 | 16 | | National Guard; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In civilian life, he was a farmer and rancher and |
---|
18 | 18 | | later worked in the liquid feed industry while continuing to tend to |
---|
19 | 19 | | the land; highly engaged in his community, he gave generously of his |
---|
20 | 20 | | time and talents to numerous organizations over the years, |
---|
21 | 21 | | including the Calhoun County Youth Rodeo Association, the Victoria |
---|
22 | 22 | | Economic Development Corporation, Hospice of South Texas, and the |
---|
23 | 23 | | Calhoun County Cattlemen's Association, where he served as |
---|
24 | 24 | | president for more than two decades; in recognition of his |
---|
25 | 25 | | contributions, he was named the 2014 Man of the Year by the Port |
---|
26 | 26 | | Lavaca Chamber of Commerce; on January 1, 2019, he was sworn in as |
---|
27 | 27 | | Calhoun County judge, and at the time of his passing, he was serving |
---|
28 | 28 | | his second term; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Meyer enjoyed the love |
---|
30 | 30 | | and support of his wife of 49 years, Jackie; he was the proud father |
---|
31 | 31 | | of two children, Ty and Leslie, and his treasured family eventually |
---|
32 | 32 | | grew to include nine grandchildren, Lucas, Dania, Adan, Eva, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Matias, Antonio, Kamie, Morgen, and Whitten; a man of strong faith, |
---|
34 | 34 | | he was an active congregant of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church; |
---|
35 | 35 | | and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, |
---|
37 | 37 | | Richard Meyer made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved |
---|
38 | 38 | | ones and fellow citizens alike, and memories of his leadership, |
---|
39 | 39 | | integrity, and compassion will forever inspire all those who had |
---|
40 | 40 | | the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Richard |
---|
43 | 43 | | Harold Meyer and that sincere condolences be extended to his family |
---|
44 | 44 | | and friends; and, be it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

46 | 46 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
47 | 47 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge |
