77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Residents of Calhoun County lost an esteemed
99 community leader and friend to many with the passing of County Judge
1010 Richard Harold Meyer on November 18, 2024, at the age of 74; and
1111 WHEREAS, The son of Robert and Gladys Elder Meyer, Richard
1212 Meyer was born in Port Lavaca on July 5, 1950, and he grew up with
1313 the companionship of four siblings, Lloyd, Bobby, Mary, and Lois
1414 Ann; after graduating from Calhoun High School in 1968, he answered
1515 his nation's call to duty and served for six years as a member of the
1616 National Guard; and
1717 WHEREAS, In civilian life, he was a farmer and rancher and
1818 later worked in the liquid feed industry while continuing to tend to
1919 the land; highly engaged in his community, he gave generously of his
2020 time and talents to numerous organizations over the years,
2121 including the Calhoun County Youth Rodeo Association, the Victoria
2222 Economic Development Corporation, Hospice of South Texas, and the
2323 Calhoun County Cattlemen's Association, where he served as
2424 president for more than two decades; in recognition of his
2525 contributions, he was named the 2014 Man of the Year by the Port
2626 Lavaca Chamber of Commerce; on January 1, 2019, he was sworn in as
2727 Calhoun County judge, and at the time of his passing, he was serving
2828 his second term; and
2929 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Judge Meyer enjoyed the love
3030 and support of his wife of 49 years, Jackie; he was the proud father
3131 of two children, Ty and Leslie, and his treasured family eventually
3232 grew to include nine grandchildren, Lucas, Dania, Adan, Eva,
3333 Matias, Antonio, Kamie, Morgen, and Whitten; a man of strong faith,
3434 he was an active congregant of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church;
3535 and
3636 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community,
3737 Richard Meyer made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved
3838 ones and fellow citizens alike, and memories of his leadership,
3939 integrity, and compassion will forever inspire all those who had
4040 the good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4242 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable Richard
4343 Harold Meyer and that sincere condolences be extended to his family
4444 and friends; and, be it further
4545 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4646 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4747 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Judge
4848 Richard Meyer.
