8 | 9 | | Texas Capitol on February 19, 2025, to pay tribute to their city's |

9 | 10 | | rich heritage and to celebrate Lubbock Day; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Located within the Llano Estacado, Lubbock was |

11 | 12 | | established in an area that was known for its tough conditions; as a |
---|
12 | 13 | | result, it was settled long after many other parts of the North |
---|
13 | 14 | | American continent, and the citizens who reside there today reflect |
---|
14 | 15 | | the same welcoming and resilient pioneer spirit as the early |
---|
15 | 16 | | founders; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The City of Lubbock was incorporated on March 16, |
---|
17 | 18 | | 1909; railroads, farming, and ranching stimulated the city's growth |
---|
18 | 19 | | as a trade center, and when legislation creating Texas |
---|
19 | 20 | | Technological College was passed in 1923, the site selection |
---|
20 | 21 | | committee, impressed by the enthusiasm and hospitality of its |
---|
21 | 22 | | citizens, chose Lubbock for its location; and |

22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, with a metropolitan area of more than 400,000 |

23 | 24 | | people, Lubbock is home to the Texas Tech University System and its |

24 | 25 | | flagship institutions, Texas Tech University and the Texas Tech |

25 | 26 | | Health Sciences Center, both world-renowned organizations; and |

26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Tech Health Sciences Center attracts |

27 | 28 | | nearly 5,500 students from around the world and is currently ranked |

29 | 30 | | SR Education Group, ranking higher than programs at rival Ivy |

31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Lubbock is consistently recognized by national |

46 | 47 | | High Plains, Lubbock has become one of the world's primary centers |

47 | 48 | | for the processing of cottonseed and hybrid-grain sorghum seed; |

48 | 49 | | moreover, the region just north of Lubbock has the highest density |
