No. 548 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Proud residents and community partners are gathering in Houston on April 5, 2025, for the grand opening of Small Places' flagship farm, Finca Tres Robles; and WHEREAS, Founded in 2014 by brothers Daniel, Mark, and Thomas Garcia-Prats, Small Places is a nonprofit that works to combat systemic inequities and foster community health and sustainability by developing farms on underutilized land in urban areas; based in Houston's Second Ward, the organization focuses on neighborhood food production and distribution, education, and farmer training; it currently assists 65 area families and accepts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits at its farm stand; and WHEREAS, The grand opening of Finca Tres Robles is the result of a 40-year land agreement made between Small Places and Harris County in 2022; the 1.5-acre farm will feature a storefront and marketplace, a neighborhood produce program, and community-supported agriculture; the new location will also provide apprenticeship opportunities to those wishing to gain experience in a professional farming operation; and WHEREAS, Since its founding, Small Places has served as a critical lifeline to countless area Texans in need of nutritional assistance, and the tireless dedication to nurturing the health of communities demonstrated by the organization is truly an inspiration; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of Finca Tres Robles and extend to all those associated with the farm sincere best wishes for continued success with their important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Small Places as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
