| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 2014 by brothers Daniel, Mark, and Thomas |

| 11 | 12 | | Garcia-Prats, Small Places is a nonprofit that works to combat |

| 12 | 13 | | systemic inequities and foster community health and sustainability |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | by developing farms on underutilized land in urban areas; based in |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Houston's Second Ward, the organization focuses on neighborhood |

| 15 | 16 | | food production and distribution, education, and farmer training; |

| 16 | 17 | | it currently assists 65 area families and accepts Supplemental |

| 17 | 18 | | Nutrition Assistance Program benefits at its farm stand; and |

| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The grand opening of Finca Tres Robles is the result |

| 19 | 20 | | of a 40-year land agreement made between Small Places and Harris |

| 20 | 21 | | County in 2022; the 1.5-acre farm will feature a storefront and |

| 21 | 22 | | marketplace, a neighborhood produce program, and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | community-supported agriculture; the new location will also |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | provide apprenticeship opportunities to those wishing to gain |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | experience in a professional farming operation; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding, Small Places has served as a |

| 26 | 27 | | critical lifeline to countless area Texans in need of nutritional |

| 27 | 28 | | assistance, and the tireless dedication to nurturing the health of |

| 28 | 29 | | communities demonstrated by the organization is truly an |

| 29 | 30 | | inspiration; now, therefore, be it |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 31 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the grand opening of Finca Tres |
