| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Johnson County are gathering in |

| 8 | 9 | | Austin on March 25, 2025, in celebration of Johnson County Day at |

| 9 | 10 | | the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Located in North Central Texas on the southwestern |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Johnson County covers |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | approximately 740 square miles; among the first known settlers of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the region was Henry Briden, who made his home along the Nolan River |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | in 1849; the county went on to be established in 1854, and it was |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | named in honor of Middleton T. Johnson, a veteran of the Mexican |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | War, a frontiersman, and a legislator; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, During its early years, the county's economy was |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | driven by agriculture, primarily through corn, cotton, and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | livestock production; in the mid- to late-1800s, several rail lines |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | were built through the region, and in 1898, the Santa Fe Railroad |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | established maintenance shops in the county seat of Cleburne; these |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | shops encompassed construction facilities and a switchyard and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | brought economic growth and job opportunities to the area; today, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the county's leading industries include retail trade, health care |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and social assistance, and manufacturing; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Johnson County boasts a number of attractions, among |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | them Cleburne State Park, Hamm Creek Park, the Cleburne Railroad |

| 28 | 29 | | Museum, and the Mansfield Historic Museum and Heritage Center; |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | higher education institutions in the region include Southwestern |

| 30 | 31 | | Adventist University and Hill College; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Offering an attractive rural setting combined with |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | proximity to urban amenities, Johnson County is an outstanding |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | place to live, work, and raise a family, and its citizens may indeed |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | take pride in their community's unique contributions to the story |

| 35 | 36 | | of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby recognize March 25, 2025, as Johnson County Day |

| 38 | 39 | | at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |

| 39 | 40 | | delegation. |
