77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, Nowruz is being observed by many Texans and a
99 variety of faith groups, including Muslims, Baha'is, and
1010 Zoroastrians, on March 21, 2025; and
1111 WHEREAS, This festival celebrates the first day of spring,
1212 which is observed by many communities, particularly in Central and
1313 South Asia; and
1414 WHEREAS, The origin of the celebration can be traced back to
1515 ancient Persia, and the observance marks the first day of the
1616 Persian solar year; and
1717 WHEREAS, Nowruz commemorates a centuries-old agrarian custom
1818 that over time was integrated into various cultures and faith
1919 groups; and
2020 WHEREAS, Nowruz is traditionally celebrated by the recital of
2121 devotional poetry, prayers, and the distribution of dried fruits,
2222 nuts, and grains to symbolize the abundance of sustenance; and
2323 WHEREAS, Today, Nowruz is celebrated in different ways by
2424 some 300 million people around the world, and it traditionally
2525 commences with a spring cleaning of the home; and
2626 WHEREAS, The moment that the sun crosses the celestial
2727 equator, referred to as Saal Tahvil, or "the turning point of the
2828 year," families gather together around the Haft Seen table to
2929 exchange gifts, offer prayers, and wish one another a Happy Nowruz;
3030 now, therefore, be it
3131 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
3232 Legislature hereby commemorate Nowruz 2025 and extend to all those
3333 participating in the celebration sincere best wishes for a joyous
3434 and memorable event.
