| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Nowruz is being observed by many Texans and a |

| 9 | 9 | | variety of faith groups, including Muslims, Baha'is, and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Zoroastrians, on March 21, 2025; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, This festival celebrates the first day of spring, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | which is observed by many communities, particularly in Central and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | South Asia; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The origin of the celebration can be traced back to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | ancient Persia, and the observance marks the first day of the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Persian solar year; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Nowruz commemorates a centuries-old agrarian custom |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | that over time was integrated into various cultures and faith |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | groups; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Nowruz is traditionally celebrated by the recital of |

| 21 | 21 | | devotional poetry, prayers, and the distribution of dried fruits, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | nuts, and grains to symbolize the abundance of sustenance; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, Nowruz is celebrated in different ways by |

| 24 | 24 | | some 300 million people around the world, and it traditionally |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | commences with a spring cleaning of the home; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The moment that the sun crosses the celestial |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | equator, referred to as Saal Tahvil, or "the turning point of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | year," families gather together around the Haft Seen table to |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | exchange gifts, offer prayers, and wish one another a Happy Nowruz; |

| 30 | 30 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby commemorate Nowruz 2025 and extend to all those |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | participating in the celebration sincere best wishes for a joyous |

| 34 | 34 | | and memorable event. |
