| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Proud citizens from Denton County are gathering in |

| 9 | 9 | | Austin on April 2 and 3, 2025, to celebrate Denton County Days at |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Located in North Texas and serving as the gateway to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Denton County was created from the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Peters colony grant by the Texas Legislature in 1846 and named for |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | pioneer preacher, lawyer, and soldier John Bunyan Denton; the early |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | years of the county saw its emergence as an agricultural center, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the arrival of the railroads in the 1880s ensured that the region's |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | wheat and cotton would find distribution across the country; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The county has experienced remarkable growth in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | recent years, and with a population of more than one million and an |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | estimated 90 people moving in each day, Denton is one of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | fastest-growing counties in the nation; it continues to expand job |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | opportunities for its residents, maintaining a low unemployment |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | rate, and its welcoming business climate has drawn a number of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | corporations as well, including Sally Beauty Holdings, Target, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WinCo, Safran, and Peterbilt Motors; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The city of Denton, the county seat, is home to the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University, which were |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | founded as Texas Normal College and Girls' Industrial College in |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | 1890 and 1903, respectively; nearby Corinth hosts the largest |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | campus of North Central Texas College, which offers technical and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | occupational classes to residents throughout the county and beyond, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and the area is further served by 11 public school districts |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | educating thousands of young Texans; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the wilderness of the |

| 35 | 35 | | North Texas Greenbelt and recreational opportunities afforded by |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Lakes Grapevine, Lewisville, and Ray Roberts; other attractions |

| 37 | 37 | | include the Denton County Historical Park, the architecture of the |

| 38 | 38 | | Denton County Courthouse-on-the-Square, and the North Texas |

| 39 | 39 | | Fairgrounds, which is home to the North Texas Fair & Rodeo; |

| 40 | 40 | | moreover, the county is part of North Texas Horse Country, which is |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | one of the largest regions for horse breeding and training in the |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | southwestern United States; the county also boasts the |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | second-largest sports facility in the nation, the Texas Motor |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Speedway, which draws hundreds of thousands of race fans each year, |

| 45 | 45 | | as well as the PGA of America national headquarters; and |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of this notable North Texas county are |

| 47 | 47 | | working to preserve the best of their past even as they look forward |

| 48 | 48 | | to a bright and promising future, and they are sure to figure |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | prominently in the story of the Lone Star State in the years ahead; |
|---|

| 51 | 51 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 52 | 52 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 2 and 3, 2025, as Denton County |
|---|
| 53 | 53 | | Days at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
|---|
| 54 | 54 | | delegation. |
