| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The highest military decoration of the United States |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Armed Forces, the Medal of Honor is awarded to American soldiers, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | sailors, marines, airmen, guardians, and coast guardsmen who have |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | distinguished themselves by acts of valor, conspicuous gallantry, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and intrepidity at the risk of life above and beyond the call of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | duty; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Established under President Lincoln during the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Civil War, the Medal of Honor was first awarded more than 160 years |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | ago on March 25, 1863; since that time, an estimated 40 million men |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and women have served in the United States Armed Forces, and fewer |

| 21 | 22 | | than 4,000 have received this prestigious accolade; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, there are 61 living recipients of the Medal |

| 23 | 24 | | of Honor across the United States, and the nine recipients who call |

| 24 | 25 | | Texas home are Patrick Brady, Florent Groberg, Sal Giunta, Michael |

| 25 | 26 | | Thornton, Jose Rodela, Ty Carter, James Fleming, Dakota Meyer, and |

| 26 | 27 | | Robert O'Malley; these loyal patriots served their country in times |

| 27 | 28 | | of need, and they have each demonstrated extraordinary bravery and |

| 28 | 29 | | a steadfast commitment to defending our nation; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The opening of the National Medal of Honor Museum in |
