| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Tiara Cooper has been named a recipient of the 2025 |

| 9 | 10 | | Legislative Black Caucus; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Ms. Cooper is a social justice |

| 11 | 12 | | leader who is currently serving as deputy director of the Texas |

| 12 | 13 | | Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty and as managing director of |

| 13 | 14 | | In Defense of Black Lives Dallas; she has also worked with Live |

| 14 | 15 | | Free, the Texas Organizing Project, and Dignity Over Dollars; and |

| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In recognition of her efforts, Ms. Cooper has |

| 16 | 17 | | received numerous awards, including the 2023 Future of Texas Award |

| 17 | 18 | | from Every Texan, the 2023 Ally of the Year Award from the Dallas |

| 18 | 19 | | County Democratic Party, and the 2021 Catalyst Award from the |

| 19 | 20 | | Juanita Craft Humanitarian Awards, and in 2020, she was named the |

| 20 | 21 | | Organizer of the Year by Next Generation Action Network; in |

| 21 | 22 | | addition, she presented a TEDx talk about her lived experience |

| 22 | 23 | | entitled "Your Mugshot Moment"; she is an alumna of the Theology and |

| 23 | 24 | | Racialized Policing Cohort Program at the Howard University School |

| 24 | 25 | | of Divinity, and she participated in the Emerging Leaders |

| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Through her commitment to grassroots activism, |

| 28 | 29 | | criminal justice reform, and the advancement of civil rights, Tiara |

| 30 | 31 | | Texans, and she is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now, |
