78 WHEREAS, Employees, advocates, and partners of the energy
89 industry are celebrating Texas Hydrogen Day at the State Capitol on
910 March 19, 2025; and
1011 WHEREAS, Texas plays a pivotal part in the U.S. hydrogen
1112 economy, producing nearly one-third of the nation's hydrogen,
1213 primarily from its abundant natural gas resources; the state
1314 benefits from a well-established energy sector, including the
1415 country's largest hydrogen pipeline network, spanning more than
1516 1,100 miles along the Gulf Coast, and significant industrial hubs
1617 such as Houston, which is often referred to as the "Energy Capital
1718 of the World"; and
1819 WHEREAS, While the United States is expanding its hydrogen
1920 infrastructure, Texas stands out due to its robust existing
2021 framework and ongoing investments in hydrogen projects; this
2122 positions the state as a leader in the transition to a clean
2223 hydrogen economy, contributing significantly to national goals
2324 while serving as a model for leveraging traditional energy assets
2425 for future energy solutions; and
2526 WHEREAS, Advances in hydrogen technology help reduce
2627 emissions by providing a clean energy alternative; green hydrogen
2728 emits no carbon dioxide, which supports decarbonization in such
2829 industries as steel, cement, and chemical, while hydrogen fuel
2930 cells power vehicles with water as the only byproduct; moreover,
3031 hydrogen also enables renewable energy storage and grid stability,
3132 while blue hydrogen captures carbon dioxide during production;
3233 together, these innovations improve air quality and drive a
3334 sustainable energy future; and
3435 WHEREAS, Hydrogen is a vital component of everyday life,
3536 enabling the production of ammonia for fertilizers, fuels for
3637 transportation, and methanol for plastics, resins, and adhesives
3738 used in household goods; by 2050, the clean hydrogen economy in
3839 Texas could encompass 180,000 jobs, boost the state GDP by
3940 $100 billion, or 6 percent, and produce 21 million tons of clean
4041 hydrogen, driving significant economic and energy growth; as
4142 hydrogen technology scales, it plays an instrumental role in
4243 reducing energy costs, enhancing grid reliability, and positioning
4344 the U.S. as a global leader in clean energy exports, bolstering its
4445 geopolitical influence; and
4546 WHEREAS, In Texas, the hydrogen industry capitalizes on the
4647 state's abundant natural resources, established infrastructure,
4748 and robust energy expertise to create jobs, attract investments,
4849 and drive innovation, and it is indeed fitting that the state's
4950 hydrogen industry and its partners be recognized for their myriad
5051 contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
5152 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
5253 Legislature hereby recognize March 19, 2025, as Texas Hydrogen Day
5354 at the State Capitol and extend to all those participating in the
5455 event sincere best wishes for the future.
