7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The observance of Environmental Justice Day at the |

8 | 9 | | State Capitol on April 10, 2025, provides a fitting opportunity to |

9 | 10 | | highlight the outstanding organizations that help to promote a |
---|
10 | 11 | | safe, clean, and healthy environment for all Texans; and |
---|
11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Vulnerable individuals, especially in low-income |
---|
12 | 13 | | communities of color, have been overburdened by contaminants in our |
---|
13 | 14 | | air, water, and soil that negatively impact public health; |
---|
14 | 15 | | advocates of the environmental justice movement are working to |
---|
15 | 16 | | rally support for meaningful change that would mitigate pollution, |
---|
16 | 17 | | flooding, and other hazards; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Texans benefit from the many contributions of |
---|
18 | 19 | | environmental justice groups such as Air Alliance Houston, |
---|
19 | 20 | | Coalition for Environment, Equity, and Resilience, Bayou City |
---|
20 | 21 | | Waterkeeper, and Public Citizen; these organizations have |
---|
21 | 22 | | demonstrated a steadfast commitment to protecting the environment |
---|
22 | 23 | | and uplifting working-class communities; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Environmental justice advocates have played an |
---|
24 | 25 | | instrumental role in improving the quality of life for residents of |
---|
25 | 26 | | the Lone Star State, and they are indeed worthy of special |
---|
26 | 27 | | recognition for addressing this critical issue that affects |
---|
27 | 28 | | countless people; now, therefore, be it |
---|
28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
29 | 30 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 10, 2025, as Environmental |
---|
30 | 31 | | Justice Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the |
---|
31 | 32 | | visiting delegation. |
