7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Thomas Clark Mohler retired from the Texas |

8 | 9 | | State Guard in November 2024, drawing to a close nearly a quarter |

9 | 10 | | century of exceptional service to his fellow citizens and the State |

11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Raised on a dairy farm in Litchfield, Ohio, Thomas |
---|
12 | 13 | | Mohler earned a degree from Cedarville University and was the first |
---|
13 | 14 | | member of his family to graduate from college; in December 2001, he |
---|
14 | 15 | | enlisted in the Texas State Guard and served as a staff sergeant |
---|
15 | 16 | | with the 209th Combat Weather Flight; he completed officer training |
---|
16 | 17 | | through the U.S. Marine Corps Academy, and in 2004, he was named a |
---|
17 | 18 | | first lieutenant and commander of the Texas State Guard Air |
---|

19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Mohler earned a master's degree in |

20 | 21 | | biblical studies and was promoted to lieutenant colonel; three |

21 | 22 | | years later, he rose to the rank of colonel upon receiving a master |

22 | 23 | | of divinity degree; in 2021, he was appointed by Governor Greg |
---|
23 | 24 | | Abbott as lead chaplain for the Texas National Guard, and he also |

24 | 25 | | served as chief of chaplains for the Texas State Guard; dedicated to |

25 | 26 | | giving back to the military community, he established chapel |
---|
26 | 27 | | service at Camp Mabry in Austin and facilitated its continuance |
---|
27 | 28 | | from January 2020 to April 2024; moreover, he oversaw the |
---|
28 | 29 | | renovation and repair of the bell tower and fountain at the Camp |
---|
29 | 30 | | Mabry Lieutenant General Thomas S. Bishop All Faiths Chapel; and |

30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Colonel Mohler belongs to the National Guard |

31 | 32 | | Association of the United States and the State Guard Association of |

32 | 33 | | Texas; he was honored as Guardsman of the Year in 2003, and he |

33 | 34 | | garnered many other accolades, including two Texas Homeland Defense |
---|
34 | 35 | | Service Medals, the U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute award, six merit |

35 | 36 | | medals, and the President's Volunteer Service Award; and |

36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his notable career, Colonel |

37 | 38 | | Thomas Mohler set an inspiring example through his spiritual |

38 | 39 | | leadership and distinguished service, and he may indeed reflect |

39 | 40 | | with pride on his myriad contributions to the Texas State Guard and |

40 | 41 | | the Texas Military Department; now, therefore, be it |

41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

42 | 43 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Thomas Clark Mohler on his |

43 | 44 | | retirement from the Texas State Guard and extend to him sincere best |

44 | 45 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
