67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Colonel Thomas Clark Mohler retired from the Texas
89 State Guard in November 2024, drawing to a close nearly a quarter
910 century of exceptional service to his fellow citizens and the State
1011 of Texas; and
1112 WHEREAS, Raised on a dairy farm in Litchfield, Ohio, Thomas
1213 Mohler earned a degree from Cedarville University and was the first
1314 member of his family to graduate from college; in December 2001, he
1415 enlisted in the Texas State Guard and served as a staff sergeant
1516 with the 209th Combat Weather Flight; he completed officer training
1617 through the U.S. Marine Corps Academy, and in 2004, he was named a
1718 first lieutenant and commander of the Texas State Guard Air
1819 Support; and
1920 WHEREAS, In 2008, Mr. Mohler earned a master's degree in
2021 biblical studies and was promoted to lieutenant colonel; three
2122 years later, he rose to the rank of colonel upon receiving a master
2223 of divinity degree; in 2021, he was appointed by Governor Greg
2324 Abbott as lead chaplain for the Texas National Guard, and he also
2425 served as chief of chaplains for the Texas State Guard; dedicated to
2526 giving back to the military community, he established chapel
2627 service at Camp Mabry in Austin and facilitated its continuance
2728 from January 2020 to April 2024; moreover, he oversaw the
2829 renovation and repair of the bell tower and fountain at the Camp
2930 Mabry Lieutenant General Thomas S. Bishop All Faiths Chapel; and
3031 WHEREAS, Colonel Mohler belongs to the National Guard
3132 Association of the United States and the State Guard Association of
3233 Texas; he was honored as Guardsman of the Year in 2003, and he
3334 garnered many other accolades, including two Texas Homeland Defense
3435 Service Medals, the U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute award, six merit
3536 medals, and the President's Volunteer Service Award; and
3637 WHEREAS, Over the course of his notable career, Colonel
3738 Thomas Mohler set an inspiring example through his spiritual
3839 leadership and distinguished service, and he may indeed reflect
3940 with pride on his myriad contributions to the Texas State Guard and
4041 the Texas Military Department; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby congratulate Colonel Thomas Clark Mohler on his
4344 retirement from the Texas State Guard and extend to him sincere best
4445 wishes for the future; and, be it further
4546 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4647 prepared for Colonel Mohler as an expression of high regard by the
4748 Texas House of Representatives.
