No. 607 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Rita Blanca Electric Cooperative is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2025; and WHEREAS, During the settlement of the Northwest Panhandle, rural areas were still largely without electric power; a group of leaders from Dallam, Sherman, Moore, and Hartley Counties came together to bring electricity to local farms and ranches, and as a result of their efforts, the formation of the Rita Blanca Electric Cooperative was approved by the Rural Electrification Administration in 1945; and WHEREAS, Today, the Rita Blanca Electric Co-Op serves more than 1,700 members and maintains nearly 8,600 meters and more than 3,400 miles of power lines in Dallam, Hansford, Hartley, Hutchinson, Moore, Oldham, Potter, and Sherman Counties; the utility company has worked hard to keep pace with increasing demand for electric power, and to that end, it has joined Golden Spread Electric Cooperative, Inc., enabling customers to benefit from the quality of local service combined with competitive rates; and WHEREAS, For eight decades, the Rita Blanca Electric Cooperative has provided reliable and affordable electrical power to area homes and businesses, and in so doing, it has contributed greatly to the prosperity and quality of life in the communities it serves; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Rita Blanca Electric Cooperative and extend to all those associated with the utility sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Rita Blanca Electric Cooperative as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
