7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Officer Brad Smith retired from the College Station |

8 | 9 | | Police Department on March 7, 2025, concluding more than four |

9 | 10 | | decades of distinguished service in law enforcement; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, A native of College Station, Brad Smith graduated |
---|
11 | 12 | | from College Station Consolidated High School and briefly attended |
---|
12 | 13 | | Texas State University before beginning his career with CSPD in |
---|
13 | 14 | | 1978, shortly after his 20th birthday; he served the department for |
---|
14 | 15 | | over a decade until relocating to Junction City, Kansas, and |
---|
15 | 16 | | joining the Junction City Police Department in 1989; after leaving |
---|
16 | 17 | | law enforcement to work in private security in California and North |
---|
17 | 18 | | Carolina for several years, he returned to Texas and was hired by |
---|
18 | 19 | | the Washington County Sheriff's Office in 1996; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Two years later, Officer Smith was urged to rejoin |
---|
20 | 21 | | the College Station Police Department, where he spent the remainder |
---|
21 | 22 | | of his career; along the way, he served as a leader, a mentor, and a |
---|
22 | 23 | | field training officer within the department, and he set an |
---|
23 | 24 | | outstanding example for his colleagues through his commitment to |
---|
24 | 25 | | community policing and his ability to connect with and build trust |
---|
25 | 26 | | with the citizens he served; in addition to the mentorship he |
---|
26 | 27 | | provided to his fellow officers, he sought opportunities to counsel |
---|
27 | 28 | | at-risk youth and help set them on a more productive path in life; |
---|

29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Known as a tough but fair officer, Mr. Smith |
---|
30 | 31 | | excelled at enforcing the law on his beat, locating wanted felons, |
---|
31 | 32 | | and acquiring confessions from suspected criminals; moreover, his |
---|
32 | 33 | | courage under fire led to him twice being awarded the department's |
---|
33 | 34 | | highest recognition, the Medal of Honor, and he used his experience |
---|
34 | 35 | | to serve as a peer counselor to other officers who had been involved |
---|
35 | 36 | | in traumatic events while on the job; in acknowledgement of his |
---|
36 | 37 | | immeasurable contributions, he was honored with the 100 Club's |
---|
37 | 38 | | prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, also called the Super Cop |
---|
38 | 39 | | Award, in May 2024; and |
---|
39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Officer Brad Smith's skill, expertise, and |
---|
40 | 41 | | commitment to public safety have long made him a pillar of his |
---|
41 | 42 | | agency and the College Station community, and he may indeed reflect |
---|
42 | 43 | | with pride on his many accomplishments as he embarks on a |
---|
43 | 44 | | well-deserved retirement; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
45 | 46 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Officer Brad Smith on his |
---|
46 | 47 | | retirement from the College Station Police Department and extend to |
---|
47 | 48 | | him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

49 | 50 | | prepared for Officer Smith as an expression of high regard by the |

50 | 51 | | Texas House of Representatives. |
