67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Officer Brad Smith retired from the College Station
89 Police Department on March 7, 2025, concluding more than four
910 decades of distinguished service in law enforcement; and
1011 WHEREAS, A native of College Station, Brad Smith graduated
1112 from College Station Consolidated High School and briefly attended
1213 Texas State University before beginning his career with CSPD in
1314 1978, shortly after his 20th birthday; he served the department for
1415 over a decade until relocating to Junction City, Kansas, and
1516 joining the Junction City Police Department in 1989; after leaving
1617 law enforcement to work in private security in California and North
1718 Carolina for several years, he returned to Texas and was hired by
1819 the Washington County Sheriff's Office in 1996; and
1920 WHEREAS, Two years later, Officer Smith was urged to rejoin
2021 the College Station Police Department, where he spent the remainder
2122 of his career; along the way, he served as a leader, a mentor, and a
2223 field training officer within the department, and he set an
2324 outstanding example for his colleagues through his commitment to
2425 community policing and his ability to connect with and build trust
2526 with the citizens he served; in addition to the mentorship he
2627 provided to his fellow officers, he sought opportunities to counsel
2728 at-risk youth and help set them on a more productive path in life;
2829 and
2930 WHEREAS, Known as a tough but fair officer, Mr. Smith
3031 excelled at enforcing the law on his beat, locating wanted felons,
3132 and acquiring confessions from suspected criminals; moreover, his
3233 courage under fire led to him twice being awarded the department's
3334 highest recognition, the Medal of Honor, and he used his experience
3435 to serve as a peer counselor to other officers who had been involved
3536 in traumatic events while on the job; in acknowledgement of his
3637 immeasurable contributions, he was honored with the 100 Club's
3738 prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award, also called the Super Cop
3839 Award, in May 2024; and
3940 WHEREAS, Officer Brad Smith's skill, expertise, and
4041 commitment to public safety have long made him a pillar of his
4142 agency and the College Station community, and he may indeed reflect
4243 with pride on his many accomplishments as he embarks on a
4344 well-deserved retirement; now, therefore, be it
4445 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4546 Legislature hereby congratulate Officer Brad Smith on his
4647 retirement from the College Station Police Department and extend to
4748 him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for Officer Smith as an expression of high regard by the
5051 Texas House of Representatives.
