67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Marquis Sanders was recently recognized by the
89 Arlington Fire Department for his lifesaving actions on December
910 29, 2024; and
1011 WHEREAS, On that day, Mr. Sanders was participating in a
1112 pickup game of football at Bowie High School when his friend Isaiah
1213 Stokes experienced a sudden cardiac arrest and fell unconscious;
1314 recalling the CPR training he had received through the American Red
1415 Cross, Mr. Sanders immediately directed other bystanders to call
1516 9-1-1 and then took over attempts to resuscitate Mr. Stokes; and
1617 WHEREAS, Mr. Sanders continued performing CPR until
1718 Arlington firefighters and medics arrived on the scene; thanks to
1819 the heroic efforts of Mr. Sanders and the crew from Fire Station 12,
1920 Mr. Stokes went on to recover from the heart attack and was released
2021 from the hospital in January 2025; and
2122 WHEREAS, When confronted with a medical emergency, Marquis
2223 Sanders remained calm and skillfully applied his CPR training to
2324 save the life of his friend, and it is indeed fitting that he be
2425 honored for his exemplary actions; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby commend Marquis Sanders for rendering medical
2728 aid to his friend Isaiah Stokes during a cardiac event and extend to
2829 him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for Mr. Sanders as an expression of high regard by the
3132 Texas House of Representatives.
