7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Michael O'Briant is retiring as a counselor at Lone |

8 | 9 | | Star Middle School on June 11, 2025, drawing to a close an exemplary |

9 | 10 | | tenure with the San Angelo Independent School District that has |

10 | 11 | | spanned four decades; and |
---|
11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, After receiving his bachelor's degree in education |
---|
12 | 13 | | from Angelo State University, Mr. O'Briant joined San Angelo ISD in |
---|
13 | 14 | | August 1985 as a fourth-grade teacher at Holiman Elementary School, |
---|
14 | 15 | | and he later transferred to teach the same grade level at McGill |
---|
15 | 16 | | Elementary School in the early 1990s; he completed his master's |
---|
16 | 17 | | degree in school counseling in 1997, and he went on to work as a |
---|
17 | 18 | | counselor at Day Elementary School and Fort Concho Elementary |
---|
18 | 19 | | School before accepting a position at Lincoln Middle School, where |
---|
19 | 20 | | he worked from 1999 to 2003; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The following year, Mr. O'Briant became a counselor |
---|
21 | 22 | | at Lone Star Middle School, then known as Lee Junior High School; |
---|
22 | 23 | | over the course of his tenure, he has provided invaluable guidance |
---|
23 | 24 | | to students dealing with a variety of challenges, and he has |
---|
24 | 25 | | excelled in his responsibilities related to establishing and |
---|
25 | 26 | | managing master schedules; he and his colleagues have earned the |
---|
26 | 27 | | Counselors Reinforcing Excellence for Students in Texas (CREST) |
---|
27 | 28 | | award from the Texas School Counselor Association for four |
---|
28 | 29 | | consecutive years in recognition of their commitment to improving |
---|
29 | 30 | | student achievement and development; moreover, he has been involved |
---|
30 | 31 | | with several state and local counseling organizations, through |
---|
31 | 32 | | which he has consistently advocated for students, families, and |
---|
32 | 33 | | public education; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Retirement will allow Mr. O'Briant to spend more |
---|
34 | 35 | | time with his family, which includes his wife, Elizabeth, three |
---|
35 | 36 | | children, Mitchell, Keller, and Cameron, a daughter-in-law, |
---|
36 | 37 | | Callie, and two granddaughters, Rylee and Reese; and |

37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Michael O'Briant has made a |

38 | 39 | | profound and positive difference in the lives of countless young |
---|
39 | 40 | | Texans, and he may take great pride in his exceptional record of |
---|
40 | 41 | | achievement as he embarks on the next exciting chapter of his life; |

42 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

43 | 44 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Michael O'Briant on his retirement |
