7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the |

8 | 9 | | passing of esteemed educator Beverly Delle Parker on April 25, |

9 | 10 | | 2024, at the age of 86; and |
---|
10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Clifford and LaDelle Stiegler, the |
---|
11 | 12 | | former Beverly Stiegler was born in San Antonio on January 4, 1938; |
---|
12 | 13 | | she completed her bachelor's degree in sociology at Southwestern |
---|
13 | 14 | | University and began her career in elementary education in Port |
---|
14 | 15 | | Arthur; invited to create a business etiquette class at Lamar State |
---|
15 | 16 | | College Port Arthur, she came to love higher education; she went on |
---|
16 | 17 | | to earn a master's degree from Lamar University and a doctorate in |
---|
17 | 18 | | political science from the University of Houston; during 31 years |
---|
18 | 19 | | teaching at LSCPA, she organized the LSCPA Faculty-Senate and |
---|
19 | 20 | | served as chair of the Liberal Arts Department and the |
---|
20 | 21 | | Distinguished Speaker Series; moreover, she was named the recipient |
---|
21 | 22 | | of the Julie and Ben Rogers Community Service Award; following her |
---|
22 | 23 | | retirement in 2006, she remained close to many of her colleagues and |
---|
23 | 24 | | delighted in hearing from former students; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Parker shared a fulfilling 64-year marriage with |
---|
25 | 26 | | her husband, State Senator Carl Parker; they were blessed with |
---|
26 | 27 | | three children, Valerie, Chris, and Allen, and four grandchildren, |
---|
27 | 28 | | Andrew, Emma, Peyton, and Tripp; both avid readers and lifelong |
---|
28 | 29 | | learners, the couple had strong faith and a commitment to service in |
---|
29 | 30 | | common as well; during Senator Parker's long career in the Texas |
---|
30 | 31 | | Legislature, Dr. Parker was a key advisor; he preceded her in death |
---|
31 | 32 | | in March 2024; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Parker benefited her community |
---|
33 | 34 | | in numerous capacities; she gave generously of her time and talents |
---|
34 | 35 | | to such organizations as the YMCA, the Recovery Council of |
---|
35 | 36 | | Southeast Texas, the Jefferson County Visitor's Bureau, and the |
---|
36 | 37 | | Service League of Port Arthur; in addition, she was a member of the |
---|
37 | 38 | | Jefferson County Central Appraisal Review Board until the age of |
---|
38 | 39 | | 85; she also supported the Gift of Life organization, and in 2023 it |
---|
39 | 40 | | presented her with its Shine a Light Award; patient and kind, she |
---|
40 | 41 | | extended selfless love, acceptance, and mercy toward everyone; she |
---|
41 | 42 | | treasured her friends and family above all; and |
---|
42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, Beverly Parker earned the admiration and affection |
---|
43 | 44 | | of innumerable people through her wide-ranging contributions, and |
---|
44 | 45 | | she will forever be a source of inspiration to those she left |
---|
45 | 46 | | behind; now, therefore, be it |
---|
46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
47 | 48 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Beverly Delle Parker |
---|
48 | 49 | | and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be |
---|
49 | 50 | | it further |

50 | 51 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

51 | 52 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
