67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with the
89 passing of esteemed educator Beverly Delle Parker on April 25,
910 2024, at the age of 86; and
1011 WHEREAS, The daughter of Clifford and LaDelle Stiegler, the
1112 former Beverly Stiegler was born in San Antonio on January 4, 1938;
1213 she completed her bachelor's degree in sociology at Southwestern
1314 University and began her career in elementary education in Port
1415 Arthur; invited to create a business etiquette class at Lamar State
1516 College Port Arthur, she came to love higher education; she went on
1617 to earn a master's degree from Lamar University and a doctorate in
1718 political science from the University of Houston; during 31 years
1819 teaching at LSCPA, she organized the LSCPA Faculty-Senate and
1920 served as chair of the Liberal Arts Department and the
2021 Distinguished Speaker Series; moreover, she was named the recipient
2122 of the Julie and Ben Rogers Community Service Award; following her
2223 retirement in 2006, she remained close to many of her colleagues and
2324 delighted in hearing from former students; and
2425 WHEREAS, Dr. Parker shared a fulfilling 64-year marriage with
2526 her husband, State Senator Carl Parker; they were blessed with
2627 three children, Valerie, Chris, and Allen, and four grandchildren,
2728 Andrew, Emma, Peyton, and Tripp; both avid readers and lifelong
2829 learners, the couple had strong faith and a commitment to service in
2930 common as well; during Senator Parker's long career in the Texas
3031 Legislature, Dr. Parker was a key advisor; he preceded her in death
3132 in March 2024; and
3233 WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Parker benefited her community
3334 in numerous capacities; she gave generously of her time and talents
3435 to such organizations as the YMCA, the Recovery Council of
3536 Southeast Texas, the Jefferson County Visitor's Bureau, and the
3637 Service League of Port Arthur; in addition, she was a member of the
3738 Jefferson County Central Appraisal Review Board until the age of
3839 85; she also supported the Gift of Life organization, and in 2023 it
3940 presented her with its Shine a Light Award; patient and kind, she
4041 extended selfless love, acceptance, and mercy toward everyone; she
4142 treasured her friends and family above all; and
4243 WHEREAS, Beverly Parker earned the admiration and affection
4344 of innumerable people through her wide-ranging contributions, and
4445 she will forever be a source of inspiration to those she left
4546 behind; now, therefore, be it
4647 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4748 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Beverly Delle Parker
4849 and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be
4950 it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5253 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Beverly
5354 Delle Parker.
