8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Shia Ismaili Muslim community, |

9 | 9 | | commonly known as Ismailis, are visiting the State Capitol on April |
---|
10 | 10 | | 15, 2025; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The Ismailis belong to the Shia interpretation of |
---|
12 | 12 | | Islam, numbering as many as 15 million in more than 35 countries |
---|
13 | 13 | | around the world; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Ismailis have been guided by a hereditary imam |
---|
15 | 15 | | throughout a history that spans 1,400 years; today, the Ismailis |
---|
16 | 16 | | are guided by their spiritual leader, His Highness Prince Rahim Aga |
---|
17 | 17 | | Khan V, the 50th imam and a direct descendant of the Prophet |
---|
18 | 18 | | Muhammad through his daughter, Hazrat Bibi Fatima, and his cousin |
---|
19 | 19 | | and son-in-law, Hazrat Ali, the fourth rightly guided caliph of |
---|
20 | 20 | | Islam and the first Shia imam; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Prince Rahim Aga Khan's leadership builds upon the |
---|
22 | 22 | | foundations laid by his father, Aga Khan IV, furthering the |
---|
23 | 23 | | community's engagement with global issues such as economic |
---|
24 | 24 | | inequality, education, health care, and environmental |
---|
25 | 25 | | sustainability; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The Aga Khan Development Network has established |
---|
27 | 27 | | schools, hospitals, health centers, housing organizations, and a |
---|
28 | 28 | | variety of social and economic development institutions around the |
---|
29 | 29 | | world; these efforts are undertaken for the common good of all |
---|
30 | 30 | | people, regardless of race or religion; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Ismailis the world over are committed to responsible |
---|
32 | 32 | | citizenship, embracing pluralism, and building bridges of peace and |
---|
33 | 33 | | understanding; the AKDN's work is deeply intertwined with the |
---|
34 | 34 | | Ismaili community's ethos of service; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Ismaili community in Texas express |
---|
36 | 36 | | their faith by giving generously of their time, knowledge, and |
---|
37 | 37 | | resources to improve the lives of others, and it is indeed fitting |
---|
38 | 38 | | to recognize their contributions; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 15, 2025, as Ismaili Day at the |
---|
41 | 41 | | State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation sincere best |
---|
42 | 42 | | wishes for a memorable and enjoyable experience in Austin. |
