| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Administered by OneStar Foundation, the Governor's |

| 12 | 13 | | Volunteer Awards highlights the power of service to transform lives |

| 13 | 14 | | and communities; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Universal City Volunteer Corps is a coalition of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | four dedicated groups, Parks Partners, the Universal City Citizens |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Police Academy Alumni Association, Friends of the Universal City |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Public Library, and Homes for Homeless Pets; together, they raise |

| 18 | 19 | | hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities in Universal |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | City, a close-knit community with a population of 20,000; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Parks Partners has raised six figures in nine years |

| 21 | 22 | | through its Pumpkin Patch event, which benefits 27 charities; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Collaborating with the police department on |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | community programs, the Universal City Citizens Police Academy |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Alumni Association assists with such initiatives as Blue Santa and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | the Citizens Police Academy; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Friends of the Universal City Public Library raises |

| 27 | 28 | | funds to bolster essential library resources, improving access and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | services for all residents; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Committed to the well-being of companion animals in |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | need and to uniting them with loving families, Homes for Homeless |

| 31 | 32 | | Pets has provided nearly $500,000 to the city's animal shelter; and |

| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Beyond fundraising, the groups work in other ways to |

| 33 | 34 | | support students, help animals, honor military families, and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | heighten civic pride; and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Universal City Volunteer Corps |

| 36 | 37 | | have demonstrated a lasting commitment to making their community a |

| 37 | 38 | | better place for all, and their accomplishments are richly |

| 38 | 39 | | deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
