| 11 | 12 | | Ellis Johnson, Gordon Johnson was born in Dallas on December 26, |

| 12 | 13 | | 1961; his family moved to Austin when he was a child, and he |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | practically grew up at the Capitol, where his father served as House |

| 14 | 15 | | parliamentarian and as executive director of the Texas Legislative |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Council; after earning a bachelor's degree in engineering from |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Texas A&M University and a law degree from South Texas College of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Law, he practiced briefly in Houston; he spent the rest of his |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | career in the family law firm, Johnson and Johnson, representing |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | clients in both the public and private sectors; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Johnson had a deep understanding of the inner |

| 21 | 22 | | workings of state government, and he was able to resolve even the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | most complicated or controversial of issues; an advisor to numerous |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | public officials, he served for many years as political director |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | for House speaker Joe Straus, and he was instrumental in securing |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | passage of the Texas Racing Act and other key legislation; |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | good-natured and generous with his time and knowledge, he was a |

| 27 | 28 | | mentor to many; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Above all, Mr. Johnson was devoted to his loved |

| 29 | 30 | | ones; he spent countless happy hours watching his son, Reed, play |

| 30 | 31 | | sports, and they enjoyed many adventures together, from |

| 31 | 32 | | international travel and deep sea fishing to hunting and working on |

| 32 | 33 | | the ranch; eventually, he knew the joy of welcoming a |

| 33 | 34 | | daughter-in-law, Taylor, and granddaughter, Jemma, into his |

| 34 | 35 | | family, and his fulfilling 28-year marriage to Julie Johnson |

| 35 | 36 | | brought him four treasured stepchildren; deeply kind, he cared for |
