67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, The Duncanville High School boys' basketball team
89 once again proved itself one of the finest in the Lone Star State by
910 winning the 2025 University Interscholastic League 6A Division 1
1011 state championship; and
1112 WHEREAS, The Panthers began their journey to the title by
1213 capturing the District 11-6A championship; they continued to excel
1314 in the playoffs, dispatching Temple, Wylie, Spring Grand Oaks, and
1415 Rockwall High Schools to reach the state semifinals for the 10th
1516 time; overcoming an early deficit, the team upset nationally ranked
1617 Allen High 77-74 to punch its ticket to the state final; and
1718 WHEREAS, On March 8, at the Alamodome in San Antonio,
1819 Duncanville took the court against Houston Bellaire High in what
1920 proved to be a thrilling battle for the crown; protecting a
2021 two-point lead entering the fourth quarter, the Panthers
2122 demonstrated remarkable poise down the stretch and held their
2223 advantage into the final moments of the contest; as the game clock
2324 expired, Bellaire's three-point attempt fell short, clinching a
2425 dramatic 54-52 triumph for Duncanville; the Panthers cut down the
2526 nets in celebration of the program's sixth state title and ended the
2627 season with a stellar record of 27 wins and just 7 losses; and
2728 WHEREAS, Duncanville was led by Kayden Edwards, the
2829 championship game Most Valuable Player who was joined by Cam Smith
2930 on the All-Tournament Team; the Panthers also received valuable
3031 contributions throughout the year from the other members of the
3132 roster: Beckham Black, Xavion Lawson, Christopher Hunt Jr., Jirehn
3233 Mitchell, Gary Jones, Ethan McKinney, Kaden Harris, Ryan Hood,
3334 Chris Gooden Jr., Joseph Brooks, Grayson Shaw, CJ Smith, and
3435 Leandre Hill; these determined student-athletes were ably guided by
3536 head coach David Peavy and assistant coaches Chris Thomas, Jay
3637 Cosme, Darrin Session, and Brent Jones; they received additional
3738 support from managers Jackson Parks, Imarion Mallord, Zoe Kirkland,
3839 Mya Talley, and Kennidy Manning, trainers Alec Hawkins, Jessica
3940 Uselding, Paola Cabrera, Kailyn Nembhard, and Jaelyn Coleman, and
4041 statistician Rebecca Cady; and
4142 WHEREAS, Through their skill, hard work, and dedication, the
4243 Duncanville Panthers have burnished their community's reputation
4344 as the "City of Champions," and this achievement will be fondly
4445 remembered for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
4546 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4647 Legislature hereby congratulate the Duncanville High School boys'
4748 basketball team on winning the 2025 UIL 6A Division 1 state
4849 championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
4950 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5253 House of Representatives.
