| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception a decade ago, 214Selena has |

| 11 | 12 | | brought together area residents to celebrate the life and legacy of |

| 12 | 13 | | musical legend and cultural icon Selena Quintanilla-Pérez; this |

| 13 | 14 | | year, the event will feature activities such as a lotería night, art |

| 14 | 15 | | show, and vendor market with live music by Vanita Leo; in addition, |

| 15 | 16 | | the Texas Theatre will host a screening of the film Selena; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, 214Selena marks the anniversary of Selena's death on |

| 17 | 18 | | March 31, 1995, when she was tragically killed at the age of 23; a |

| 18 | 19 | | native Texan, she gained international acclaim for her unique blend |

| 19 | 20 | | of Tejano music with elements of other Latin genres and mainstream |

| 20 | 21 | | pop; she helped to foster greater acceptance of Latin music |

| 21 | 22 | | traditions in the United States, and her influence is still felt |

| 22 | 23 | | today among artists across the musical spectrum; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Forever in the hearts of her fans, Selena continues |

| 24 | 25 | | to inspire innumerable people around the world, and this event |

| 25 | 26 | | allows Texans to express their enduring affection for the vibrant |

| 26 | 27 | | "Queen of Tejano" and her music; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 28 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 214Selena festival and extend to |

| 29 | 30 | | all those in attendance sincere best wishes for a meaningful and |
