67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
89 passing of Lana Kay Andrews of Dallas on March 16, 2025, at the age
910 of 78; and
1011 WHEREAS, The daughter of Patty and Milton Fischer, the former
1112 Lana Fischer was born on July 17, 1946, and raised in Corpus
1213 Christi; she graduated from Carroll High School and Southwest Texas
1314 State University; she shared a fulfilling marriage with her high
1415 school sweetheart, Barry Andrews, that spanned 56 years until his
1516 passing in 2023, and they became the proud parents of two children,
1617 Natalie and Blake; later, Mrs. Andrews knew the joy of becoming
1718 "LaLa" to four treasured grandchildren, Madison, Sophie, Curran,
1819 and Bain; and
1920 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Andrews established Andrews
2021 Distributing in Corpus Christi in 1976; as the company grew, they
2122 became increasingly involved in philanthropy, and they continued
2223 their charitable and civic endeavors following their move to Dallas
2324 in 1994; longtime benefactors of the American Cancer Society, they
2425 underwrote the annual MD Anderson Cancer Center A Conversation with
2526 a Living Legend luncheon, which has raised millions of dollars for
2627 cancer research, and their company backed hundreds of other
2728 community events every year; they also supported another major
2829 fundraiser, the Cattle Baron's Ball, hosting it eight times at
2930 their South Texas ranch and their distribution center; and
3031 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to her community, Mrs. Andrews
3132 served as co-chair of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health
3233 National Advisory Board; she was a valued member of The Crystal
3334 Charity Ball, and her many contributions were recognized with her
3435 induction into its hall of fame; in addition, she was involved in
3536 the Vital Mind organization and worked in behalf of cardiology
3637 research at UT Southwestern Medical Center through her work with
3738 the Sweetheart Ball committee; and
3839 WHEREAS, Mrs. Andrews was a wonderful hostess and delighted
3940 in entertaining; she enjoyed her Monday card group and vacations in
4041 La Jolla, California, and she never missed a Cowboys or Mavericks
4142 home game; a woman of faith, she was an active congregant of
4243 Highland Park United Methodist Church; and
4344 WHEREAS, Warm, kind, and caring, Lana Andrews brightened the
4445 world for all who knew her, and they will forever hold her close in
4546 their hearts; now, therefore, be it
4647 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4748 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lana Kay Andrews and
4849 extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her
4950 children, Natalie McGuire and her husband, Mike, and Blake Andrews
5051 and his wife, Tricia; to her grandchildren, Madison and Sophie
5152 McGuire and Curran and Bain Andrews; and to her other relatives and
5253 friends; and, be it further
5354 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5455 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5556 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lana Kay
5657 Andrews.
