| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed agriculture journalist and |

| 8 | 9 | | cattleman drew to a close with the passing of Horace Franklin |

| 9 | 10 | | McQueen of Houston County on March 19, 2025, at the age of 86; and |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of Tommy and Fairy Lee McQueen, Horace |

| 11 | 12 | | McQueen was born near Latexo on July 3, 1938; he later moved with |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | his family to La Porte, where he grew up working for local farmers |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and ranchers; he accepted a scholarship from Texas A&M University |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and joined the Corps of Cadets, and during his junior year, he wed |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | the former Carole Myers; the couple shared a fulfilling marriage of |

| 16 | 17 | | more than 66 years, raising their sons, Dale and Dennis, and their |

| 17 | 18 | | twin daughters, Deidre and Debra, and they eventually welcomed two |

| 18 | 19 | | grandchildren into their family; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Following graduation, Mr. McQueen and his family |

| 20 | 21 | | moved to Alexandria, Virginia, and he embarked on his career there |

| 21 | 22 | | as an associate editor for the National Future Farmer magazine and |

| 22 | 23 | | then as an editor with other publications; he shifted to television |

| 23 | 24 | | broadcasting in 1964 in Lubbock as the owner and producer of the |

| 24 | 25 | | regional show Farm and Ranch News; through this work, he developed |

| 25 | 26 | | an interest in the Australian Murray Grey cattle breed, and in 1969, |

| 26 | 27 | | he and his wife established Murray Grey USA; becoming a full-time |

| 27 | 28 | | cattleman, he imported the first Murray Grey cattle into the |

| 28 | 29 | | country, and he was a founding member of the American Murray Grey |

| 42 | 43 | | WHEREAS, While the death of Horace McQueen brings great |

| 43 | 44 | | sadness to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long |

| 44 | 45 | | be treasured by all who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |

| 45 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 46 | 47 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Horace Franklin |

| 47 | 48 | | McQueen and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: |
