H.R. No. 678 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The 100th birthday of a longtime civic leader is truly cause for celebration, and Rita Radley of El Campo marked this momentous milestone in her life on January 14, 2025; and WHEREAS, Born in El Campo in 1925, she graduated from El Campo High School and went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin, where she met her future husband, Robert "Bob" Radley; they married in 1943, shortly before he joined the U.S. Army Air Forces; the devoted couple was blessed with three children, Jessica, Gary, and Craig, and eventually, they knew the joy of welcoming into their treasured family many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Following World War II, the Radleys lived in East Texas while Mr. Radley was an independent oil operator; they moved to El Campo in 1951 and embarked on a new path as rice farmers and ranchers; deeply committed to her community, Mrs. Radley made time to serve in numerous capacities and became the first female president of the El Campo Chamber of Commerce; a trailblazer, she also served as chair of the Lower Colorado River Association; she was a founding member of the Beautify El Campo Extension Services, which tends the downtown area's decorative planters; moreover, she was a deacon of First Presbyterian Church; her wide-ranging contributions earned her recognition as Citizen of the Year; and WHEREAS, More than 15 years ago, Mrs. Radley established the El Campo Heritage Center for senior citizens; she wrote grants and raised funds to transform the Northside School cafeteria into an inviting place for older residents to socialize and focus on their physical and mental well-being; the facility offers age-appropriate fitness equipment, exercise classes, and health seminars; and WHEREAS, Rita Radley has earned the admiration and appreciation of innumerable people through her vision and dedication to the betterment of El Campo, and it is truly a pleasure to honor her for having joined an elite group of Texans who can look back on 100 years of meaningful achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Rita Radley on her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Radley as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
