7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A caring and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

8 | 9 | | passing of Janette Kathleen Davis of Galveston on January 3, 2025, |

9 | 10 | | at the age of 60; and |

10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Cheryl Brien and William Warren, the |
---|
11 | 12 | | former Jan Warren was born in Fort Worth on October 18, 1964; after |
---|
12 | 13 | | graduating from Southwest High School, she earned a bachelor's |
---|
13 | 14 | | degree in forest management from Stephen F. Austin State University |
---|
14 | 15 | | in 1986; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A dedicated environmental advocate, Ms. Davis |
---|
16 | 17 | | worked for the Texas A&M Forest Service for 17 years, beginning in |
---|
17 | 18 | | its oak wilt program in Granbury and later leading rural assistance |
---|
18 | 19 | | programs and addressing forest policy issues at the agency's |
---|
19 | 20 | | headquarters in College Station; she went on to join the U.S. Forest |
---|
20 | 21 | | Service, where she eventually served as deputy regional forester |
---|
21 | 22 | | for the Southern Region of State, Private, and Tribal Forestry; at |
---|
22 | 23 | | the time of her passing, she was a program manager for the Wildfire |
---|
23 | 24 | | Risk Reduction Infrastructure Team, a committee created to prevent |
---|
24 | 25 | | and manage forest fires in the western United States; and |
---|
25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Widely respected by her colleagues, Ms. Davis was |
---|
26 | 27 | | instrumental in moving the Society of American Foresters annual |
---|
27 | 28 | | convention to Fort Worth; the recipient of a number of professional |
---|
28 | 29 | | honors, she was especially admired for her great commitment to the |
---|
29 | 30 | | preservation of woodlands and to mentorship; a devoted mother to |
---|
30 | 31 | | her son, William Warren Davis, she enjoyed hosting friends and |
---|
31 | 32 | | family at her home, gardening, and attending live events; her life |
---|
32 | 33 | | was further enriched by the companionship of her cherished |
---|
33 | 34 | | Doberman, Abba, with whom she spent many happy hours walking on the |
---|
34 | 35 | | beaches of Galveston; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in this treasured |
---|
36 | 37 | | woman's love and friendship will always remember her with great |
---|
37 | 38 | | admiration and affection; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Janette Kathleen |

40 | 41 | | Davis and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: |

41 | 42 | | to her son, William Warren Davis; to her parents, Cheryl Young Brien |

42 | 43 | | and William Miles Warren and his wife, Sharon Giraud Warren; to her |
