77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, The passing of Sister Emilie Eilers on March 20,
99 2025, at the age of 90, concluded a remarkable life of religious
1010 service; and
1111 WHEREAS, The daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Grafe Eilers,
1212 Emilie Eilers was born in Hallettsville on July 2, 1934, and she
1313 grew up as the eldest of her nine siblings, Betty Jean, Shirley,
1414 Joseph, Paul, Timothy, Thomas, Michael, Mary, and Cynthia; she
1515 attended Sacred Heart Catholic School before going on to graduate
1616 from Nazareth Academy, and she entered the postulancy of the
1717 Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament at Nazareth
1818 Convent on December 2, 1951; her training as a novice began on June
1919 2, 1952, and she pronounced her first vows a year later; and
2020 WHEREAS, Sister Emilie earned a bachelor's degree in biology
2121 from Incarnate Word College and a master's degree in educational
2222 administration from Southwest Texas State University; over the
2323 course of her seven decades as a professed member of her
2424 congregation, she taught students at Holy Cross Catholic School in
2525 Bay City, Assumption School in Ganado, and St. Leo the Great
2626 Catholic School in San Antonio; in addition, she provided skillful
2727 guidance as principal of St. Joseph High School in Victoria, as
2828 well as St. Michael's Catholic School in Cuero and Our Lady of
2929 Victory Catholic School in Victoria, both of which she also served
3030 as a teacher; and
3131 WHEREAS, A member of her congregation's leadership team for
3232 nearly two decades, Sister Emilie was instrumental to such
3333 initiatives as setting up the convent's outdoor stations of the
3434 cross and rosary path; after taking a one-year sabbatical to
3535 Berakah in New Hampshire, she also earned her certification in
3636 spiritual direction and began her service as the congregation's
3737 ongoing formation director; moreover, she assisted in organizing
3838 the board of the Amor Meus Spirituality Center, which she served for
3939 a time as president; and
4040 WHEREAS, In her leisure hours, Sister Emilie delighted in
4141 praying, traveling, fishing, boating, gardening, and cooking; she
4242 greeted everyone with a radiant smile, and she enjoyed many happy
4343 moments in the company of her sisters, family, and friends; and
4444 WHEREAS, Sister Emilie Eilers led a life of caring devotion
4545 to her faith, her congregation, and her community, and although she
4646 is deeply missed, her spirit will forever live in the hearts of all
4747 who were privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
4848 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4949 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Sister Emilie
5050 Eilers and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:
5151 to her siblings, Joseph Eilers and his wife, Barbara, Paul Eilers
5252 and his wife, Kathy, Timothy Eilers and his wife, Lori, Thomas
5353 Eilers and his wife, Cindy, Michael Eilers and his wife, Judy, Mary
5454 Lindig and her husband, Johnny, and Cynthia Weaver; and to her other
5555 relatives, friends, and fellow sisters; and, be it further
5656 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5757 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5858 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sister
5959 Emilie Eilers.
