| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Hyperemesis Gravidarum Awareness Day is taking |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 2012, the observance promotes better |

| 10 | 11 | | understanding of hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of nausea |

| 11 | 12 | | and vomiting that occurs during pregnancy; patients with the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | condition may experience significant weight loss, electrolyte |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | imbalance, dehydration, and debility and are at an increased risk |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | for preterm labor; moreover, affected newborns may suffer from low |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | birth weight and neurodevelopmental issues; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, It is vital that patients with hyperemesis |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | gravidarum receive tailored care as soon as they experience |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | symptoms, which may begin as early as the fourth week of their |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | pregnancy; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, HG is an underdiagnosed condition that affects |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | nearly 6 million women worldwide, and in 2023, some 900 patients in |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Texas received treatment for the disorder; it is the number one |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | cause of hospitalization in early pregnancy as well as the number |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | two cause of hospitalization overall in pregnancy, resulting in an |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | annual national cost of $3 billion; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Hyperemesis gravidarum poses a serious risk to |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | expectant mothers and their developing babies, and Hyperemesis |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Gravidarum Awareness Day serves as a means of educating the public |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | about the condition, calling attention to the need for more |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | research, and uniting Texans in their commitment to improving |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | outcomes for patients; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby recognize May 15, 2025, as Hyperemesis |

| 34 | 35 | | Gravidarum Awareness Day and urge all Texans to learn more about the |
