| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Nucor Corporation is celebrating the 50th |

| 8 | 9 | | anniversary of its Nucor Steel--Texas plant in Jewett in 2025; and |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1975, the Jewett facility was one of |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | the first electric arc furnace plants in the United States; the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | electric arc process for melting and recycling scrap steel is more |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | cost-effective than integrated iron and steel production and blast |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | furnaces, and it generates significantly less pollution; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, A leader in the steel industry, Nucor Corporation |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | helped drive the shift from refining to recycling as the primary |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | method of steel production; today, it is North America's largest |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | steel and steel products manufacturer and its largest recycler, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | processing approximately 20 million tons of scrap metal last year; |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Nucor recently expanded into new markets in Texas |

| 21 | 22 | | with the acquisition and opening of facilities in Lewisville and |

| 22 | 23 | | Houston; on an annual basis, its six Texas divisions have a |

| 23 | 24 | | recycling capacity of 1.5 million tons of steel and a production |

| 24 | 25 | | capacity of nearly 1.7 million tons; the company also employs |

| 25 | 26 | | approximately 2,300 Texans at the plants; and |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Since 2010, the Nucor divisions in Jewett, Terrell, |

| 27 | 28 | | and Grapeland have been annually awarded Voluntary Protection |

| 28 | 29 | | Program Star status from the Occupational Safety and Health |

| 29 | 30 | | Administration; moreover, Nucor Steel--Texas earned a Texas |

| 30 | 31 | | Environmental Excellence Award for its efforts in resource |

| 31 | 32 | | conservation, waste reduction, and pollution prevention; and |

| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Nucor Steel--Texas has contributed significantly to |

| 33 | 34 | | the prosperity of Jewett over the past five decades, and it is |

| 34 | 35 | | indeed fitting to recognize this significant milestone in the |

| 35 | 36 | | company's history; now, therefore, be it |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Nucor Corporation on the 50th |
