67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, Mother's Day is among the most cherished
89 celebrations in Mexican culture, and many Texans of Mexican descent
910 are observing El Día de las Madres on May 10, 2025; and
1011 WHEREAS, Inspired by their neighbors to the north, Mexicans
1112 began observing a Mother's Day holiday in the early part of the 20th
1213 century; the celebrations of Mother's Day in Mexico and in the
1314 United States bear many similarities, with children often
1415 presenting their mothers with gifts of candy, cards, or flowers and
1516 treating them to a special lunch or dinner; and
1617 WHEREAS, In some Mexican cities, it is customary for children
1718 to begin the day by serenading their mothers at their bedside, and
1819 some even engage mariachi bands to accompany them; many families go
1920 on to attend a special mass and community breakfast; regardless of
2021 the traditions that families embrace, the greatest gift of all is
2122 the precious time spent with loved ones; and
2223 WHEREAS, The bond of affection shared between mother and
2324 child is eternal, and Mother's Day offers a welcome opportunity for
2425 all to express gratitude to their mothers for the unconditional
2526 love, support, and wisdom that they have given them throughout
2627 their lives; now, therefore, be it
2728 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
2829 Legislature hereby commemorate Mexican Mother's Day on May 10,
2930 2025, and extend warmest best wishes to the Texas families who are
3031 taking part in this treasured occasion.
