67 R E S O L U T I O N
78 WHEREAS, The Texas A&M Transportation Institute is marking
89 the 75th anniversary of its founding on June 5, 2025, providing a
910 fitting opportunity to recognize the organization's myriad
1011 contributions; and
1112 WHEREAS, Established in 1950 as the Texas Transportation
1213 Institute, TTI was created to support the Texas Highway Department
1314 through a partnership with the Agricultural and Mechanical College
1415 of Texas; early research efforts focused on pavement materials,
1516 concrete bridge structures, road base stabilization, and countless
1617 other advances in critical infrastructure; and
1718 WHEREAS, Over the years, TTI's safety research has played an
1819 instrumental role in the creation of vital roadway technologies
1920 such as guardrails and cable median barriers designed to absorb
2021 impact and safely redirect vehicles, and many of these designs were
2122 later approved by the Federal Highway Administration; the group's
2223 first Urban Mobility Report was published in 1987, providing
2324 comprehensive analysis of traffic congestion trends and solutions
2425 in urban areas, and it has since become a trusted resource for
2526 decision-makers nationwide; in recent years, TTI has embraced
2627 innovations in connected transportation technologies, big data
2728 solutions, and strategies to enhance public safety and mobility;
2829 and
2930 WHEREAS, The organization was renamed the Texas A&M
3031 Transportation Institute in 2012; today, it employs more than 700
3132 professionals, students, and support staff; TTI also works to
3233 educate the next generation of transportation professionals, and it
3334 encompasses approximately $125 million in research expenditures,
3435 more than 700 annual projects, and over 200 public and private
3536 sponsors; and
3637 WHEREAS, For three quarters of a century, the Texas A&M
3738 Transportation Institute has been a leader in addressing the
3839 complex transportation needs of the Lone Star State and the nation
3940 at large, and the organization is indeed deserving of recognition
4041 on this special milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4243 Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Texas
4344 A&M Transportation Institute and extend to all those affiliated
4445 with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success in
4546 their important work; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for TTI as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
4849 of Representatives.
