77 R E S O L U T I O N
88 WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed educator and wildlife
99 researcher drew to a close with the passing of Dr. William Peter
1010 Kuvlesky Jr. of Kingsville on March 8, 2025, at the age of 67; and
1111 WHEREAS, The son of William and Eileen Kuvlesky, Bill
1212 Kuvlesky was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, on April 11, 1957,
1313 and he grew up in College Station with four siblings, Mike, Lisa,
1414 Faith, and Andy; a graduate of A&M Consolidated High School, he
1515 earned bachelor's and doctoral degrees in wildlife and fisheries
1616 sciences from Texas A&M University and a master's degree in
1717 wildlife ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; after
1818 completing his studies in 1990, he worked as a wildlife ecologist
1919 for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and then as a wildlife
2020 biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Buenos Aires
2121 National Wildlife Refuge in Arizona; and
2222 WHEREAS, In 1999, he joined the faculty of Texas A&M
2323 University-Kingsville as an assistant professor and research
2424 scientist for the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute and
2525 the Department of Animal and Wildlife Sciences, and he was later
2626 promoted to associate professor; in 2006, he concurrently assumed
2727 the role of interim assistant dean for the Dick and Mary Lewis
2828 Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources before being
2929 permanently appointed the following year; his tenure at the
3030 university spanned more than a quarter century, and he
3131 distinguished himself through his avian ecology research, his
3232 authorship of research articles and books, and his mentorship of
3333 countless students; and
3434 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Kuvlesky enjoyed the love
3535 and support of his wife of nearly 25 years, Vanessa, and his
3636 daughter, Catelyn; he was known for his selflessness and sense of
3737 humor, and he was passionate about animals; and
3838 WHEREAS, While the passing of Bill Kuvlesky brings great
3939 sadness to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long
4040 be treasured by all who held him dear; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas
4242 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. William Peter
4343 Kuvlesky Jr. and extend deepest condolences to the members of his
4444 family: to his wife, Vanessa Kuvlesky; to his daughter, Catelyn
4545 Fritz, and her husband, Landon; to his mother, Eileen Kuvlesky; to
4646 his siblings, Lisa Bradway and her husband, Leon, Faith McConnell
4747 and her husband, Pat, and Andy Kuvlesky and his wife, Karen; to his
4848 sister-in-law, Jennifer Kuvlesky; and to his many other relatives
4949 and friends; and, be it further
5050 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5151 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5252 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Bill
5353 Kuvlesky.
