8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The life of an esteemed educator and wildlife |

9 | 9 | | researcher drew to a close with the passing of Dr. William Peter |

10 | 10 | | Kuvlesky Jr. of Kingsville on March 8, 2025, at the age of 67; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, The son of William and Eileen Kuvlesky, Bill |
---|
12 | 12 | | Kuvlesky was born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, on April 11, 1957, |
---|
13 | 13 | | and he grew up in College Station with four siblings, Mike, Lisa, |
---|
14 | 14 | | Faith, and Andy; a graduate of A&M Consolidated High School, he |
---|
15 | 15 | | earned bachelor's and doctoral degrees in wildlife and fisheries |
---|
16 | 16 | | sciences from Texas A&M University and a master's degree in |
---|
17 | 17 | | wildlife ecology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; after |
---|
18 | 18 | | completing his studies in 1990, he worked as a wildlife ecologist |
---|
19 | 19 | | for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and then as a wildlife |
---|
20 | 20 | | biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at the Buenos Aires |
---|
21 | 21 | | National Wildlife Refuge in Arizona; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In 1999, he joined the faculty of Texas A&M |
---|
23 | 23 | | University-Kingsville as an assistant professor and research |
---|
24 | 24 | | scientist for the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute and |
---|
25 | 25 | | the Department of Animal and Wildlife Sciences, and he was later |
---|
26 | 26 | | promoted to associate professor; in 2006, he concurrently assumed |
---|
27 | 27 | | the role of interim assistant dean for the Dick and Mary Lewis |
---|
28 | 28 | | Kleberg College of Agriculture and Natural Resources before being |
---|
29 | 29 | | permanently appointed the following year; his tenure at the |
---|
30 | 30 | | university spanned more than a quarter century, and he |
---|
31 | 31 | | distinguished himself through his avian ecology research, his |
---|
32 | 32 | | authorship of research articles and books, and his mentorship of |
---|
33 | 33 | | countless students; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Kuvlesky enjoyed the love |
---|
35 | 35 | | and support of his wife of nearly 25 years, Vanessa, and his |
---|
36 | 36 | | daughter, Catelyn; he was known for his selflessness and sense of |
---|
37 | 37 | | humor, and he was passionate about animals; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, While the passing of Bill Kuvlesky brings great |
---|
39 | 39 | | sadness to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long |
---|
40 | 40 | | be treasured by all who held him dear; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. William Peter |
---|
43 | 43 | | Kuvlesky Jr. and extend deepest condolences to the members of his |
---|
44 | 44 | | family: to his wife, Vanessa Kuvlesky; to his daughter, Catelyn |
---|
45 | 45 | | Fritz, and her husband, Landon; to his mother, Eileen Kuvlesky; to |
---|
46 | 46 | | his siblings, Lisa Bradway and her husband, Leon, Faith McConnell |
---|
47 | 47 | | and her husband, Pat, and Andy Kuvlesky and his wife, Karen; to his |

48 | 48 | | sister-in-law, Jennifer Kuvlesky; and to his many other relatives |
