11 | 12 | | Academy of Arts and Letters in 1977; he serves as president of the |

12 | 13 | | acclaimed nonprofit institution, which is headquartered in the Kay |

13 | 14 | | Bailey Hutchison Convention Center; each year, it draws more than |

14 | 15 | | 250,000 visitors with its programming, which celebrates the |

15 | 16 | | African, Caribbean, and African American experience through |
---|
16 | 17 | | literature, cinema, and the visual and performing arts; and |

17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The academy has presented hundreds of productions |

18 | 19 | | over the years, showcasing such stars as Jennifer Holliday, Ruby |

19 | 20 | | Dee, and Dave Chapelle; its youth programs have been an important |
