| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Wilson County are gathering in |

| 8 | 9 | | Austin on April 15, 2025, to celebrate Wilson County Day at the |

| 9 | 10 | | State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Situated on the upper coastal plain of South Texas, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Wilson County was initially inhabited by Native Americans of the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Coahuiltecan linguistic family; Spanish explorers traveled through |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the area in the early 18th century, and permanent settlement began |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | some time before 1830; the first Anglo settlers arrived in the late |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | 1840s, and in the following decades, the region attracted a number |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | of planters from the southern states as well as German and Polish |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | immigrants from other Texas counties; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Wilson County was officially established on |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | February 13, 1860, and the town of Sutherland Springs was |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | designated as its first county seat; named for James C. Wilson, a |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | legislator and member of the Somervell expedition, the county |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | encompasses sections that were originally part of Bexar and Karnes |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Counties; the county seat alternated between Sutherland Springs and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Lodi before a November 1873 election named Floresville as the new |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | county seat, a decision that is still in effect today; the county's |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | other communities include Poth, Stockdale, La Vernia, and Pandora; |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A significant portion of Wilson County is considered |

| 29 | 30 | | prime farmland, and the area serves as an important source of |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | peanuts, hay, sorghum, oats, wheat, corn, watermelons, peaches, and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | pecans; the county has also benefited from the ranching industry, |

| 32 | 33 | | and cattle, dairy, hogs, and poultry have long been major |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | agricultural products in the region; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, The people of Wilson County take great pride in |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | their rich history as they work together to build an even brighter |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | future, and it is indeed fitting to honor them for their unique |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | contributions to the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 89th Texas |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 15, 2025, as Wilson County Day |

| 40 | 41 | | at the State Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the visiting |
